Is there anything you won't but the Value version of?

I get paid next week, and this is the first payday of my new life. So starting as I mean to go on, decided to shop online to stop impulse spending. Put in my shopping list and then converted everything to the cheaper version, to see what I could have saved if I really tried. Happy to use economy cleaning stuff, and tinned tomatoes, but... there are some things I cannot/will not buy the economy version of.
Coffee
Tea
Ketchup
Some things, I actually prefer the cheap version, Weetabix, for example. The real stuff goes soggy too fast! Orange squash.

Is it just me?

Def coffee - I would rather go without than have cheap stuff. I have tried it, but just can't do it.

almost everything else I will go for the value alternative where possible although I now won't do value eggs or meat products if I can help it. I am making moves in my cooking so that I can make cheaper meals with better quality meat, if that makes sense!

Value plain chocolate though..........fab fab fab!!!

I buy meat at the butchers, not cheaper but can buy just what I need and the quality is better for the money. Same goes for veg from farm shop.

  • I won't buy value beans or spaghetti without buying the heinz version (mix it up together to bulk it out and it tastes great though).

I won't buy value tomato ketchup or bread, and I don't touch Tesco's value bananas as they go off ever so quickly, and they're four of us in the house.

Value food I do buy: meat, biscuits, fruit

Regarding tea, I've always been a tetley drinker but found the tesco premium to be as good as, although it isn't value it still works out cheaper then brand ones, as as nice.

What i usually do is have a look at the ingredients on the brand food and compare it to the value food ingredients, if there isn't much of a difference I go for the value.:rotfl:

  • Baked beans. I can't stand the cheap ones, even the HP ones are just wrong.

My DH won't eat own brand cereal..........................................................

......................or so he thinks. I buy own brand stuff and decant it into Kellogs boxes, have been doing it for years. :rotfl: I just hide the boxes in the bottom of the recycling bin, he's none the wiser. Is that evil? :D

I confess to doing similar with various things! Good for you!

  • I won't economise on coffee, I have tried but it's not the same. Also loo rolls.

Lidl cleaning products are pretty good, and I bought Mr Muscle kitchen cleaner yesterday on offer + 30% extra free, but I alwasy decant half into an empty bottle and add water to remaining half as it is SOOO strong. Still works just as well and lasts ages.

Also a good cheap cleaner for glass shower screens is car polish... (honest, go with me on this one) as it gets all the water marks off and when you use it afterwards the water rolls straight off. This way it only needs a quick rinse to keep it sparkly clean on only needs car-polishing about every 6-8 weeks!:p

Heee heee, glad I'm not the only one to do this! My DH insists on Quaker Oats, however the cheap ones have been in use in our house for the last 3 months and he's not noticed yet! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

  • Value Tea - yuck. bought some once (admittedly many years ago, it may be better now) and the smell was similar to a pub ash tray. The taste wasn't much better.
