Just as an aside, i looked at the latest posting of pennypincher: she's apologised and removed the offending posts. I think maybe, apart from general discussion of where the line is in terms of posting stuff from other people, that's where it should end, myself.

I agree Keth, I'm glad the blog has been sorted... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

May I just clarify? (I don't want an arguement either Haribo). We're not talking just pictures and recipes here. We're talking about copying someone's original words/thoughts/postings.
Recipes are a tricky area when it comes to copyright. I asked a board guide once about this because someone wanted a recipe from a particular book I happened to have a copy of (that'll be most of the cookbooks ever published then). Apparently it is OK to copy them out provided you give full credit to the author.
But, there are grey areas because it's a rare recipe that is completely original. All recipes are based on some existing recipe somewhere and as Kethry points out recipes often become known as 'So and So's cake' or whatever because So and So is who you got the recipe from. I've experienced this with the Chocolate Fudge Pudding recipe. I have given the title and author of the book I got it from several times on this forum, but I posted it in my own words. It's one of those old recipes that has been around for years and even Nigella has a version (with chilli in).
I think if you are going to use other people's recipes on a blog the thing to do would be to say something like ' Nigella/Jamie/Hugh has a great idea for a pasta dish which has this, this and this in. I tried it and it was yummy but I made these changes ......' and then you can write your version and give suggestions for other variations. You could take your own snaps of the finished dish too. It would be really great if Pennypincher could do something like that, I'd enjoy reading it.0 -
I'll never have to worry about my recipes being used thats for sure
but I do agree thriftlady as one recipe posted by Caterina was posted as pennypincher's "blah, blah" which is not "just sharing" but taking as their own and not really cricket.

Thank you, sloppy, for letting us know about the update on the webpage. It had an interesting turn of phrase
I'm pleased, for her own sake, that she has amended things - so all is well that ends well~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cricket? What's cricket got to do with anything???? Blimey, the poor lass didn't understand about copyright, how the heck is she supposed to understand the rules of cricket and low ballers???
That's an easy one... here ya go...
RULES OF CRICKET
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man
that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes
in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all
out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes
out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men
still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him
out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out
and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out
all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.
When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both
sides have been out twice after all the men have been in,
including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
