I'm with you MATH, need to enjoy my summer holidays before I start thinking of anything like blinking Christmas
BUT every year I wish I had got myself more organised in advance. I hate shopping in crowded shops, can't think straight & end up buying things I don't want & forgetting other things.
I do buy cards & wrapping paper in Jan sales, and we also put money away each month (as we have finally realised that birthdays & Christmas come every year & are not a surprise, so should therefore be budgeted for!)
I am a bit nervous about getting too organised, as I was very organised one year - and it all went to pieces. I was expecting DS1, and worked out that if he arrived as late as his sister was, he would be born on Christmas day. So I had everything ready, even Christmas dinner in the freezer! Guess what, he arrived early!
So, what's the problem? Well, on Christmas eve he was very ill, and at only 2 weeks old was rushed into hospital. As you can guess, we didn't get to enjoy our nice organised Christmas day!0 -
Hi everyone
Last year I would of thought July! Christmas!! But not anymore.
I have 2 boxes of Luxury Crackers from Boots under the bed that cost £3 in the January sales. My first bit of Money Saving ever
Also, thanks to all the great Boots offers lately I now have lots of stocking fillers.
I think getting stuff bit by bit is a much better idea than all in one go. Going to make Quennie's soap next week (fingers crossed as I'm not very good at making things)
Happy July

Local M&S outlet - M&S bath goodies £1 each (for stuff that was £5+). lots of emergency presents bought as well as some handmade soaps. bit of tissue paper 'round a handmade soap, bit of twine, brown parcel label saying the ingedients - bob's your uncleBut I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0

This is an excellent idea! Just wondering how many pages it will be by Christmas if it's reached 4 already on July 1st?????
So far I've only bought 1 present but partner and myself have agreed to get us a joint present again. Something that we'll both use and enjoy. This year it's going to be a HD/DVD recorder so I'll be checking out the best bargains on here later on!
I just wish that OH's kids would decide a little bit before Christmas Eve whether they're coming for Christmas or not - makes quite a difference to the shopping!!!!0 -
I can't believe you really expect them to tell you any earlier than 11:59 on Christmas morning that they'll be there for lunch...
..OH! And...
They'll be bringing four friends...
EACH!

oooh how weird is this...just last night i commented to the OH that it was now less than 6months til christmas!
ok, well i have a big box full of gift bags waiting to be recycled, the very last of 'bought cards' that i will ever send (bought cheap and left over from last year). i am planning, if possible to buy lots in the states when we are away - for example, disney stuff for nephew (who has his 1st birthday and christmas less than two weeks apart), and taking advantage of getting unusual bits at a good price.
failing that, unless there is one big special present that will make someone's day, i intend to give gift bags filled with lots of special treats for them to enjoy...something that doesnt come in garish environmentally fiendish packaging, something that, god forbid, may still bring joy long after people have given up on their new years resolutions
im keeping my eyes out for freebies etc to bulk out the stockings (i think stockings are mandatory, quite often the best part of christmas (presents at any road))
packaging wise, i think plain brown paper, some twine and a sprig of holly/misletoe/tinsel is really cheap but effect way of making a present look extra special.
also, for cheap and colourful packaging (especially ideal for bulking out hampers/gift bags/concealing presents), is to take old coloured paper/ colourful pages from magazines, and run it through the shredder. voila!!!
and i've decided in advance that those horribly awkward people who have everything/want for nothing, will either get some quality time spent on them, or i will adopt chickens/goats or similar via oxfam in their name.
whilst i think of it, for those of you who are wondering how to take advantage of the x number of free prints offers that spring up on the freebies board...have you thought about using them to make calenders or similar for the rellies?know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
I made some small bags with yellow bridal satin with gold organza on top. Tie the top closed with gold Christmas ribbon. It makes a bag of chocolate coins look really special in a Christmas stocking (and gets recycled every year).. woolworths usually have a three for two offer on chocolate coins in October
It's a very easy idea for when the girls have to take something to the school's Christmas market - 'Year 3 are asked to bring sweets attractively packaged with a Christmas theme' etc etcIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
