For christmas this year I've taken Martin at his word and started saving in January, by standing order from OH wages. Every week we are saving a set amount and it's adding up nicely. As Martin says you know christmas is coming all year and trying to pay for it out of one months wages is mad. Its only taken us 20 years of marriage to work this out LOL. I am also saving saver stamps at the supermarket and have £60 already for xmas food :) It's gonna be different to last year when in December OH said to me ( I handle all our money) where's the money coming from to pay for pressies etc?

:T :T :T Hey, better late than never when it comes to learning something useful ;) Well done on your Christmas preparedness :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
i love buying books for people (not for people that I have to post to though:)) and try to buy a couple of books a month whenever I find something suitable on special offer. My favourite site is the book people followed by Amazon. Can anybody recommend any other sites for suitable books as pressies please.

Today I bought 2 copies of a great book for almost any age called "Remember When" - A nostagic trip through the consumer era by Robert Opie originally £19.99 down to £5.99 each. I had to wrestle a copy back from oh and then spent a happy hour myself lost in its pages :o. They are full of pictures of the sweets we ate, toys we played with, records we played etc through the last century. Now I must find a safe place for these before we ruin them!
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

i have been saving tesco's vouchers since last november...i signed a form instore and they keep hold of them for you (find having them in my purse they just get spent) so far have £33.00 towards xmas food shop!!!!
I think I might make this my pin money savings challenge "something to save for". I'm going to buy some of those stamps and stick them on a card. But when my Tesco vouchers come through, instead of using them, I might also add those to the stamps.

Mind you, my Christmas shop isn't always that big as I often buy something towards Christmas every week from about July onwards: a Christmas pud (although I *may* make my own this year), a jar of mince meat, a stocking filler, a bottle, etc.

And we don't know yet what we're doing this year. If we go away, perhaps I'll ditch the stamp idea and put the savings in an account instead to help pay for that.

Hmm. Decisions, decisions. I can feel a natter with Misterholic coming on. He did mention Egypt at the weekend, in an alcohol induced moment, but I'd rather put that kind of money towards my debt.

Have found this thread really Interesting. I started this year with every intention of having all by Xmas pressents bought by September, but have been rather unsuccessful. I bought 2 DVD box sets in the sale in January for my Hubby's Xmas presents, one I sold to MIL in March for hios birthday present, The other I think she will buy off me for his Xmas present. I bought a couple of little items off ASOS.com earlier in the year with vouchers, these have gone towards my Best friend and my nieces Birthday Presents. I have also go a couple of cross stitches to do for presents. I like the idea of the Homemade hampers and think I'll be giving these to most people for xmas.

Please can someone give me the details on how to make the Homemade Bath Salts sounds like a great idea to me.

SuiDreams, I've never made bath salts yet, but a quick search on Google gives quite a range of sites and recipes...probably worth looking through a few until you find some that sound right for you, using the ingredients you would like to use. You can always add dried herbs and / or flowers to the salts (which are usually epsom salts or seat salt), and bicarbonate of soda for soft skin and a bit of fizz. Once you get an idea from the sites of the sorts of things you can use, you're away then, dreaming up your own fragrances and combinations! I'm looking forward to it!
  • I stocked up my pressie box a bit yesterday - Primark were selling packs of children's /teen's make up for 50p down from £1.50 - £2. As I have 3 girls of varying ages, not to mention their friends I bought 12 packs.

    Bath salts
    2/3 sea salt/rock salt
1/3 epsom salts (ask at pharmacy counter, not expensive at all)
Few drops of essential oil of choice OR lavender flowers OR dried herbs OR contents of chamomile tea bag or similar
Few drops food colouring (Don't go over board or you'll emerge from the bath looking like an ailen!) I like to match the colour to the scent ; i.e green for tea-tree, yellow for lemon, mauve for lavender etc etc.
Mix together in a glass bowl. Add the colour last a drop or 2 at a time until desired colour is reached.
Bottle in jars etc & decorate. I add computer printed lables saying the scent & what it is good for : i.e tea-tree for post operations/sun burn, lemon for wake up & uplifting, lavender for bedtime & de-stress etc etc, and a co-ordinating fabric circle over the lid tied with a pretty ribbon.

    HTH;)

  • Sounds a fab idea Lillibet - I will definitely have to make some. How long do they last? ie. is this something I'll have to wait right before Christmas to do?
  • Oops was so excited about this recipe I just burnt the toast!
