Hi! HSBC have made me an offer, I'm just not sure if I hsould accept.
They're offering about £60 less than I claimed and ignoring the interest as 'they don't feel it's appropriate', so i am about £270 down on the total I claimed for.
Not sure which way to call it. I could really use the money as I've just been made redundant, but as Martin points out in the opening notes, should I just grin and grab what's being offered as it's a very sizeable lump of what they took in the first place?
In anyone else's experience, how likely are HSBC to just cave in and offer the rest without dragging this out even further?
In other news, I got a letter from HSBC about my old business account that I've also claimed on. It follows a different pattern from the personal account, and instead of sending six years worth of statements, it seems to outline 'chunk a' that i can claim back and 'chunk b' that they believe was adequately advertised, and i don't stand a hope of. Has anyone else seen one of these? If I reply that i would like to claim 'chunk b' am I then going down the whole 8 weeks of investigation + 14days after accepting offer all over again? Surely from the format of the letter they couldn't justify following the 8 weeks investigation again?
Ta!

Oh, another thought after reading back over the last couple of pages... how long to HSBC normally take to process an acceptance? surely it must be included in the 14 days they mention?

I can't help with your business account, but if you read back through this thread you'll see that HSBC do pay out within the 14 days of them receiving your acceptance letter back. I got mine in 10, some people earlier, but they do pay on the 14th day at the latest. Just ask Tillybella above who got hers at midnight
As for your claim, I would take it. You don't say how much your claim is for but they are usually offering around the 85% mark, and your not entitled to the interest unless the judge offers you it in a court case, so HSBC are correct with this. They are only paying interest out if you have gone down the MCOL route. You need to decide if you want to go through money claim then wait for a court allocation, then hopefully win. Do bear in mind the judge will see that HSBC offered you nearly all your claim. How desperate are you for £270 as it could be months before you get it.

Congrats Sam, I waited till about 12:20 last night to see if you were coming on, but I presume you were too busy jumping around. I'm off work with food poisoning at the moment, so was struggling to stay awake! Fingers crossed for Lou and Amelia for something before the end of the weekendWage Day Advance, Quick Quid, Pounds to Pocket and Pounds Till Payday....i'm after you0

thanks for the advice, jon! I'll sign on the dotted line then! :j
in asides, if anyone does have any advice on the business account part of the question, i'd really appreciate it! It's jsut cos from the completely different format i'm in unknown water... i foolishly thought that all hsbc accounts would be the same!
Cheers!

@ jon (missed point) I think they have offered around the 85-86% mark, total being offered is £861.900
-
Seems that is their standard offer. I got 86%, my gf got 86%, and so did a few other people on here. I think the smaller the claim (£50-£500) the more chance of getting the lot seems to be, after that the % seems to reduce. TBH I have no problem with HSBC keeping 14% of my claim as that probably would be a fair reflection on how much these services should cost as opposed to a £30 charge. Just think its £862 you thougt was gone forever, so congrats
Hopefully someone will be able to help with your business account.Wage Day Advance, Quick Quid, Pounds to Pocket and Pounds Till Payday....i'm after you0 -
cheers jon! yes, i figure it's like a credit card company deducting £12 a pop from a claim to reflect the OFT decision there... but better! (for us
)
I'll certainly be glad when the cash lands! And can't wait for the business account to be sorted out cos there's even more there! That was a nightmare at the time. CS on the phone were offering an overdraft extension that would have carried me a couple of weeks to the next big job (which i KNEW was coming) but the branch manager was nixing it, and the charges spiralled out of control and then i was left with no option but to cease trading and apologise to everyone whose work i wasn't going to be able to fill
i suppose the branch manager was jsut making a business decision but it hurt like hell at the time, having to close a business you've built up from scratch is very emotionally hard to do... getting that back will be especially sweet!
hope the food poisoning isn't too bad and you feel better soon!

I've never run my own business but I can imagine how hard it must be to see all your hard work gone. When I got divorced the bank manager wouldn't help me, when I had all the bills on the house to pay on my own. It became really difficult, and if it wasn't for my mam helping me out with money, i'd been in a real state. Fingers crossed you get something back then.
My £2,800 has helped me get through my being ill, lol, but thank-youWage Day Advance, Quick Quid, Pounds to Pocket and Pounds Till Payday....i'm after you0 -
