To me this sounds like it's more than a dehumidifier which is needed. Walls should not run water in a well built and insulated house. Are you on any benefits like DLA which might entitle you to a free Warm Homes check and installations?

sorry not managed to get on for a bit. it's a council house and have had the room checked. i've been told its condensation -there's a cold spot where the ceiling slopes a little on outside walls -poor design, and insulation can't squeeze between the roof and tiles and ceiling. all bedrooms are the same design but the problem seems more evident in the smallest one. it has ruined the paintwork. my hubby is in receipt of dla but i haven't heard of the home check - will look into it thankyou

    hi
i need a dehumidifier for a small bedroom, although if i could get one which could be used for all 3 bedrooms it would be better. have looked at some on argos website but reviews say they are noisy. never had one before so don't know what level of noise to expect. the said bedroom walls run water when windows are shut even for short periods. can't be good for daughter's health. my budget is up to £200 although less than this would be great. want to get one now before winter :)

I have same problem and i bought a Challenge from Argos for £99 it was very noisy, then a Mitsubishi MJ-E16V for £275, still very noisy as i put the dehumidifier on the landing upstairs to cover the whole house. A friend of my missus bought an Ecoair DD122FW Classic, she swears its very quiet. Its quite a bit more than I was willing to spend for a third time, bought it for £159. It seems to pick up more water than the other 2 despite so quiet. It also looks a lot nicer too, although my missus thought a Pink one will be prettier, I insisted on buying the blue one. you can see the colours at website ecoair.org/DD122FW.html .Problem solved! :)
  • Hi all apologies if this is the wrong section to post in but I would like to buy a dehumidifier, from searching this site they look like a good buy but I am confused as which one to buy.We have alot of condensation but as I understand there are two types I can buy, one has a heater the other one doesnt. My idea is to use it to give some background heat upstairs but I cant understand how a 600 w dehumidfier can give off the same heat as my 500w oil filled heater as thats useless. I may be wrong but the only thing I can think of its heating and drying the air so it wont feel so cold. it would be great to switch off my oil filled heaters and just run a 600w to warm upstairs and take the chill off and remove the condensation.

    Does anyone have any recommendations.

I have a machine but it is rated less than 600w. I have had it for a few years and it does the job of extracting moisture from the air (what I bought it for - so I'm happy). However, my machine does produce some heat from the action of the fan, I assume, so there is a detectable gain.

I am no expert but my understanding is that relative humidity has an effect on how warm we 'feel' as opposed to how high the temperature is. Anyway, what machine are you looking at?
  • I was looking at this one in Currys, although its there own brand so I can't find a good review on it

Have you had a look on Amazon?

Just bought a Delonghi from them.

Same model in Argos 50% dearer.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

There does appear to be some reviews online (capacity appears to be an issue - too small). There's a post on here too:

Might give you a lead if you PM the OP.

I personally tend not to buy from Currys as they tend to be at the higher end of the pricing scale in my experience (although some staff in the shops can be well informed...).

Hopefully others on here can give you a steer.
  • I bought an Ebac 2650E from Argos, when I first got it I had it on max and very little heat was coming out of it but it was doing its job so I was happy, today I had it on Auto with the slow fan and went to empty it tonight the unit is warm and its blowing warm air now, dont know if it be enough heat for what you want but its working really well.

    Hello,

We also have this Ebac model, bought direct from Ebac, as it was the same price, but extended 5 year warrantly and free delivery.

It is great! It takes the container of water, full, out of the air every day.
Makes us wonder where all that water would be! Our house was very damp before.
Had it for about a month now. It is not on whilst we are out, but is on overnight, on the Auto setting, but lowest fan speed. We have the bedroom doors almost closed, so we cant hear it.

There is some heat from it, but it is not a heater. In fact, it is turning the heating off, as it is affecting the thermostat, as they are both on our landing.
