Best Dehumidifier? (merged threads)

Options
I live in a four bed chalet style house with part doubleglazing. However the main front room and bedroom are not doubleglazed and I'm sick of removing condensation in the winter. Can anyone suggest the best sized dehumidifier that I should buy please? Thanks

Have a look at this site http://www.ebacdirect.com/ they have some clearance offers and a product selector guide, I have used an Ebac without any problems for several years and would recommend them, there are other makes on the market that you may want to consider.
  • Thanks Cajef I'll take a look (sorry my 'Thanks' button doesn't work from my home PC!).

    Hi,

My small-ish house has currently penetrating damp in the upstairs two rooms as well as rising damp on the ground floor, spanning a front room, kitchen, and utility room. It may be a while before I can afford to sort it out properly and professionally...:o

And so I was wondering whether anyone might be able to recommend an appropriate de-humidifier? What have been your experiences? What size would cover the house - would I need two of them for upstairs and down??

I've never used one, although I think this may be a temporary solution. All advice welcome.

    Much appreciated.

Have you had a look for the obvious stuff ...Bridging across damp proof course ..You havent got soil in flower beds above damp course ..or anything resting up the wall that could be pulling damp into the wall ..is there any damage to the exterior walls near the damp areas ,cracks badly finished frames etc.Broken drain pies near the damp?
It could be easier to solve than you think .You don't want to be paying big electricity bills for the next 3-4 months .

Hi - thanks for your reply. It's a subject that sets me panicking....the problem is too big for me...no dpc can be detected in the property (built 1860's) or if there was something, then it's broken down. Also, I understand that the sewage pipes for the road go under the house (but suspect this is not the cause as I cannot smell anything etc.).

A surveyor will take a second look later, but the idea of a de-humidifier was to be a stop gap. I'm involving the Council, as they say they may be able to give me a loan (and also project manage) the work, which is only part of the story, since the whole property needs adequate weather-proofing.

I have an Ebac which is very good. Got mine off freecycle, might be worth asking on there first especially if it's just for now.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

Hi - thanks for your message. Can you say anything more about it? Size? Does is do your whole living space, or just one room? What results do you get - can it 'dry' out walls?? cheers!

Hi Lill-Me: I've just searched the web for 'Ebac', and they seem quite a good manufacturer. I know of Freecycle, so shall post a 'wanted' ad on it. Thanks.

I have an ebac dehumidifer which does the whole house.
If you look on the ebac website it helps you find the right dehumidier for your property.
  • I have a largish 3-bed semi and I bought an Ebac dehumidifier (2650e) just after Xmas direct from the Ebac site.

It was quite costly but there are still savings to be had - as it is on offer at the moment.

It's sorted the damp problem in my house and I wouldnt be without it now.

Oh also............If you buy online from Ebac you get a 5yr guarantee.
