  • Toni_ Lasagna can also be put together and frozen (if wrapped well) and then defrosted and cooked when you want it....! Because I make the sauce from scratch takes 2/3 hours I always make 2 and freeze one.

Yes, you can cook it from frozen. I used to do it all the time.

However, especially with Bolognese sauce (and therefore lasagne, cannelloni, etc.) I now try to remember to get it out of the freezer in time, for one simple reason. it makes it easier to physically break the mince up really fine.

I also now do it in a big saucepan instead of a frying pan, so it can't get away so easily.

this might sound silly but check your oven, mine has a defrost setting, on the temperature dial, next to the '0' it has a *, this is defrost. Ive got some chicken in mine now

you can't really cook fresh mince you've frozen from frozen tho cause it would just be a big block,

You can, though ;) Cook it slowly and it will soften. You can then bash it and it will cook through and separate :)

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add this to the existing thread.

sorry to resurrect this thread but just had the same dilemma - and i had less than 1h to cook a chilli from scratch with frozen mince! so what i did is i defrosted it in the microwave, first for 5 mins then i kept breaking it into smaller blocks and it was done in no time!
