About time that the way some pigs are reared is given attention after the chicken campaign:
Revealed: the cruelty of UK's pork suppliers
Investigation exposes conditions that drive distressed pigs to cannibalism
"Pig-farming will come under scrutiny in the UK next month when Channel 4 screens a one-off programme by Jamie Oliver. The chef – whose friend, the TV presenter Jimmy Doherty, is an organic pig farmer – is expected to focus on the difference between British and Continental pig farming. "

Of course it is alright for you buy cheap pork. Just as long as you don`t mind coming back as a pig who is destined to become cheap pork, and living under appalling conditions..... Karma. The more I see of men, the more I love dogs - Madame de Sevigne0 -

Animals deserve to be happy and well looked after before ending up in my BBQ...:D
I'd rather eat healthy happy animals as nature intended. If you'd rather bury your head in the sand so be it...{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -

Nobody is stopping you from buying cheap Pork. Nobody is forcing you to watch a TV programme or read a newspaper article either. If you want to buy cheap pork or chicken that's your choice. However surely other people are entitled to have an opinion on animal welfare conditions of pigs or poultry raised for meat? These forums would be a very dull place if nobody was allowed to have an opinion. If I decide to be interested in where my food comes from then that's my choice - if others are not interested then that is their choice.

Are there any farmers who will sell direct to the public (and therefore make a wodging great profit compared to what the supermarkets will give them)? Surely in this age of the internet little farmers could set up a website and you could just check whether they have any in stock and then tootle off to the farm gate with a fiver in your hand? That would be a poke in the eye for the likes of Tesco...0

(goes off to look for individual farmer's sites).0

I don't mean a farmshop (which sometimes seem a bit overpriced, and surely not every small-scale farmer can afford to set one up). Virtual real estate is a lot cheaper than bricks and mortar. Maybe the farmer could invite you in to take a look at how the animals are reared...0

So, 18-or-so months on from Chicken Out, who's gone back to intensively-reared chicken?0

Not me!
