Free Range Chicken

I've signed Hugh Fernley's petition to stop battery farming chickens, and went to Asda to get a free range one but they didn't have any.
Does anyone know who sells free range chickens ?

Hi, CM! I think there's been a run on them following people's shock after the programmes last week. Hope it continues :T (the shock, that is, not absence of FR chicken
).
I bought one in Tesco, after discovering that my butcher's aren't free range
Keep trying - unless we continue to boycott intensive chicken, nothing will change long-term

Perhaps Asda had sold out. I know my Tesco had none at all on Sunday, but they did have the ticket saying that it was temporarily out of stock. I did however check the price, it's about £3.70/kg compared to about £2.50/kg for the ordinary ones, so that's not as bad as I had thought it might be.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

I went to my local abbatoir and bought some lamb and beef. They had chickens, and said they were local, but not sure if they were free-range. I bought one for £3.50, so it probably wasn't,
but at least I didn't buy the Asda 2 for £5. The girl behind the counter said that people wouldn't pay the £6 - £7 a free range one would cost
Will try Tesco next time to see if they have any. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Asdas dont generally seem to stock free range chickens, as they dont stock british bacon (in my local asda walmart) Tescos usually have a supply in my experience, and of course Waitrose have always got Free-Range in stock.

Maybe it's a regional thing? We often get reduced free range/organic from our Asdas in the evening.New year, no debt! Debt free date - 02/01/07 :j :j :j0 -
fyi, Asda in Farnborough (Hampshire) sells free range chickens. Not very many though. They're £3.00 a kilo I think. They also sell Corn fed free range which is what I bought because the normal free range had run out and these are £3.15 a kilo. They are branded with the "extra special" label. I bought mine for £3.51, and I reckon I can get 2 meals for 2 people plus stock out of it. Planning on Sunday roast this sunday with a chicken risotto on monday.0

I am going to play a bit of a devil's advocate here. I fully support Jamie Oliver and HF-W's campaign against factory poultry and egg farming, and what follows is just a statement of fact.
If you can reconcile yourself with the fact that they are already dead and that not buying them isn't going to make any difference to them, I have noticed that (for obvious reasons) the "sub-prime" supermarkets have lots of probably intensively-farmed chickens at reduced prices! The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Stephen Leak I take your point but I just wonder how many stress hormones are being fed back into us from these abused birds, to say nothing of the growth hormones and the antibiotics they are laced with in their short abnormal life.
I,m sure there will be a glut of cheap chicken and if that's all the budget will stretch to so be it. I guess it's a case of 'you live until you die'.
