This is a very old thread... but there is a new question in post 37 / 38.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • Back in August I bought a Sony Memory Stick Pro from ebay an 8 gb one from a reasonable looking seller. You guessed it, it was fake. Straight to ebay and tried dispute resolution. He argued that it was not fake but my goods I was using it in. When I examined it (messages in my camcorder, product packaging, memory card, quality of print etc..) against one I knew to be genuine then checked the many pages on ebay reviews/google on what to look out for I was in no doubt it was fake.

The guy claimed he had bought it from another seller and it was the wrong thing for his phone which is why he sold it on and he had no idea it was fake. Whilst I feel sorry for him if it was genuinely true I was not prepared to wait for him to resolve with his seller as he fobbed me off with and wanted a refund.

I escalated it to a claim on paypal which consisted of me having to get a stockist retailer to certify on headed paper that is was fake (thanks Jessops), faxed to paypal (can't believe an internet company like this won't let you email it! - try to make it as difficult as possible!).

    Eventually I got my refund.

Now 2 months later he is on a second appeal which might mean they take the refund back!

    I hate ebay/paypal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Irony.

    The opposite of wrinkly.

There are a lot of fakes on Ebay, it is hard to know even when you get it to find out its a fake, even experts have difficulty.

My advice is, if you dont want to take the gamble, buy for a legitimate outfit, that way you have some recourse they are less likely to be fakes although its not 100% guaranteed

Memory prices have tumbled for sake of a few extra quid I go the legitimate route.

I bought a 2gb Sandisk cruzer white two years ago and all the writing has rubbed off. The software is genuine but is it normal for genuine sandisks to have their writing on the case rub off? This also happened to my brothers 1gb I bought off eBay but off a different seller.
  • well done mike_belfast - if you get scammed then fair enough to give the scammers a scare. we shouldn't be polite to those who rip us off!
