instead of harrassing the seller through email just sen it on to whatever said company/brand that they are trying to state it is. if its unbranded police maybe? ebay and paypal wont give a damn... they never do. but i doubt thethe police would care about a 2cent flashdrive.

but your emailing is threatening and/or bribing... which makes u look bad.

Yeah the Ebay guy is a real hero, not. They are a con artists and if they decide to break the rules and con people they should be expected to suffer the consequence

The sad thing is Police couldn't give a stuff and Ebay at most will close there account only to be reopened the following week and these con merchants do it all again.

Stay clear of Ebay for any memory it aint worth it

Hi, was the 16gb drive formatted with NTFS or FAT? I suspect it might have been FAT.
If a drive of any kind is formatted using the FAT system, the largest file that can be transferred is up to 4gb, if it is a larger file, it says the drive is full even if it was a 50gb drive. If the files are less than 4gb in size, you can add files until all the drive is full, in this case 16gb.
If the drive is formatted using the NTFS file option, it will accept files of any size, and as with FAT, can be filled to capacity.
This is an early limitation to windows as drives were much smaller in the "old" days, and files much smaller.
If the drive was ready formatted when you receieved it, it may well have been using the FAT system, as this is the standard with Flash drives, so you need a special utility to format with NTFS, (Vista may do it but I am using XP).
Ebay has without doubt some cowboys selling, and some who do not have a clue what they are selling, but it may be worth considering the above in this case.

Due to a limitaion in Windows, the FAT system usually used to format Flash drives will not allow files larger than 4gb to be transferred, though smaller files are OK and will fill the drive to capacity.
A special utility can be downloaded, (or may be in Vista?), to format the drive using the NTFS system, which allows much larger files to be transferred.
I suspect you might have received the Flash drive formatted using FAT.

The problem is there are a lot of cowboys selling on Ebay who have no clue what they are selling.

The above is just a possibilty I suspected as the limit was 4gb, and if you tried to transfer a file larger than this the Windows error message would state there was not enough room on the drive, not that the file size was too large.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • The pen was formatted as 16gb NTFS and I was transferring my business files which are about 6gb of small word docs and software apps.

The pen was defo a fake. Actually a picture of the pen drive is shown here at:

It even says 16gb on the side of it!

A very interesting article. I must admit I find it amazing how inactive Ebay/Paypal really are over this kind of thing. I bought what was advertised as a genuine WindowsXP disk and received a fake. I tried to report it and claim back only to find how useless and difficult it is to get action from either Ebay or Paypal. I eventually found he had bought the disk from Ebay a month before for £1.99, and used the exact photo which looked like a real WinXP disk, but completely changed the description which stated it was only a backup CD, saying it was authentic and came with a CAO. What arrived was a copy and a fake certificate. (I won the auction and payed £38 thinking it was genuine).
He refused a refund, so I eventually went to my credit card company I use to pay Paypal and sent them all the evidence. After just a few weeks, I suddenly got a full refund from the guy with no explanation.

precisely. which is why u report em without their knowledge. By the time they realise its 2 late...

It happened to me once with a different product and instead of emailing the sellers, i forwarded it straight to the company they were tryna say it was from who sent me a letter stating they were fakes and asked for the sellers ebay names and my invoice for the bought items. They also told me how to claim my money back as they couldnt do that (i knew that). I sent them and in the meantime informed both sellers that id noticed they were fakes and forwarded them on to said company. within a week they were NARU and i never heard from them again. i got a refund from 1 of em straight away, the other decided to argue their case, so i had to go 2 paypal to claim. this was a 2 years ago tho, i stopped using paypal not long afta that.

Threatening to report to get a refund isnt the way forward...
