- never again)
That's the problem I have - cannot bear to pay for italian restaurant food as I know how much it really costs and no matter how well cooked, I can always do better (modestly hehehe).

I always make homemade pizza but to save time I make the base in the bread machine the same amount of ingredients for basic white 2lb loaf does my family of 4 two pizza bases.(put a pinch of mixed herbs in it before you mix) The kids love it cos they decide what to put on it!! Also if they want different things I compartmentalise the pizza keeps everybody happy! I cook from whats in the cupboard too, although sometimes I just need a little bit of inspiration.

Yummy Budget Stir Fry
Quantities for one, multiply as applicable!!!
1tbsp oil
1 pack 8p noodles
1 carrot
1 onion
handful of seeds/nuts (from storecupboard of course!)
Seasoning (Soy or Worcester sauce is nice but any sachets etc. will do)
To this basice recipe you can add what you like but bear in mind it increases the cost!!!
Method
1. Pour boiling water over 8p noodles, set aside.
2. Chop onion, shave carrot thinly with potato peeler (cooks quicker, saves fuel!!)
3.Heat oil and stir fry onion and carrot, chuck in nuts and drained noodles, heat through and season.
4. Eat it!!!
This recipe is very tasty and even looks okay despite its very basic ingredients!!! :ALaughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0 -

Judi wrote:We have green potatoes once a week. Green as in when i mash the spuds i add a couple of teaspoons of mint sauce to the mash. A couple of teaspoons of sugar also mixed in counteracts the tartness of the vinegar. I serve it with lamb and the kids love it.
My mum used to serve us orange mashed potatoes. My dad did not like carrots, and so mum always mashed them in with the spuds, and my dad would eat this no problem. I just thought mash always looked this colour when I was young!keep smiling,

Gather together a crowd of 5000 persons along with about 200 helpers. Into the baskets divide the 5 loaves and 3 fishes…. Hee hee…
Distribute yummy fishes and bread among the throng… sit back and relax… Just joking honest… :rotfl:

When I make homemade pizza I divide it into 3 (3 kids) and use victoria sponge tins with the slide on them. Pizzas come out realy easy, and they can all have their favourites. I always cook in cake tins now. Its far better than bought, more filling, and much cheaper-that is, unless Im in a hurry and I buy a tesco value pizza for 49p and add some extras. These are big enough for 2 people served with chips or salad.Youd feed 6 for £1.62 is you had a third each though with salad and chips and toppings!Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

I never buy chinese stir fry sauces, I stir fry veggies eg finely sliced carrots, onions, brocolli, etc. with garlic and fresh ginger then I add some chicken or veg stock, add soy sauce and thicken with corn flower. can add chicken or meat if ou want. dont know how muc it costs but its cheaper than a £1.50 jar of sauce!0

I used to buy the cheapy value sauces but after seeing on here what you can do with a tin of values toms, I don't even do that any more.
Horrors when making my curry sauce last night I opened the cupboard and no tin of tomatoes - boohoo, so i mixed tomato puree with water and made my own passata, ratio of 1:4.
Anyway, can we have any more ideas on recipes as I've just cut and pasted them and printed them out and I'm on the lookout for a cheap december/ january!!0
