We made Caterina's pizza last Saturday and my husband insists I make it again tomorrow. There was enough for 2 if not 3 pizza bases.
Instead of value tomatoes I used some left over bolognese sauce and added 3 mushrooms, 1/2 a sliced onion, 1/3 a sliced red and 1/3 sliced green pepper (all things we had in the fridge from previous meals) and topped it with some grated cheese that needed using and... it was delicious. I think I'm going to see if I can stretch it to three pizzas and freeze one! And the variations are endless
Absolutely brilliant Caterina - thanks.DFW Nerd Club #545 Dealing With Our Debtnever attribute anything to malice which can be adequately explained by stupidity, [paranoia or ignorance] - ZTD&[cat]

When we were kids my dad used to make us Poverty pancakes we were born in the north east and to say money was scarce was an understatment and by wednesday or thursday the money and food had just about gone so my dad used to make us these
8oz plain flour
3 sml eggs
salt
milk & water
2 medium potatoes (grated and starch squeezed out
1 onion (the biggest you have got
and any leftover cheese sweaty or otherwise
a little oil or fat for frying
Make the batter for pancakes as usual,
then add the potato and dice the onion and add this.
Heat a frying pan till medium / hot and put a thick layer of mixture in pan ,
Cook till edges turn brown then turn over ! ! dont try to toss as they will go everywhere ! ! put a plate over the fryingpan and turn it over then slide it back in to the pan cook for about 5mins ,
then put grated cheese on the cooked side and stick under the grill till it bubbles and eat.
These are very filling and ketchup or brown sauce is a must ,I am 43 and still love making and eating these . My kids call them english pizza0 -
You're english pizza sounds fab - even my non veggie eatting other half will like it! (You can guess what we're having tomorrow!!!)
I'm rubbish at cheap meals, on account of the fact that every meal is meat and potato based its not easy. Although pre other half days I used to enjoy lasagne with every type of frozen veggie going - just buy big value sacks... use tinned toms (you dont even need to whizz them up) pre cook the veggie as per instructions and whack in a big dish layered with value lasagne sheets and a white sauce made from cheese and milk and a bit of corn flour. Sprinkle some cheese on top (if you've not got much cheese try mixing it with crushed crisps to make it go further) And bake for 35-45 mins depending on your oven. Mmmmmm
Alternatively - fish finger, home made wedges and peas make a good meal.
Or any sort of potato thing - (waffles, chips, hash browns, wedges, rosties, ANYTHING you've got) with tinned plum tomatoes, eggs and peas.Bump due 22nd September0 -

Oh my, that comes from The Wooden Tops - that's what the twins sing as they sit at the table and dad says 'Now, now children' or something like that. Now, my memory isn't THAT good but I do have a video of old children's classics and that episode is on it :rotfl:0 -
Not very different but sometimes i put tortilla wraps in the freezer if they are going to go off and i take one defrost it and use that as a pizza base instead of dough. i just put the usual tomato puree and veggies, cheese and any leftover scraps of ham or chicken and cheese and put in the oven till the tops cooked. Its lighter so not as filling but with salad on the side it suits my sisters tastes as shes not keen on stodgy food. Doesnt deter me though Hehe!0
