I have been using wilkinsons's facial wipes the last couple of months. Everytime I have been in the last couple of months they have had one of their various wipes have been bogof. This means two packs of 25 wipes costing between 88p and 99p. I have tried 3-4 different variations and have found them to be okay to use at night.

I always used to use Tendskin to prevent and get rid of ingrown hairs, but it's expensive 118ml costs 11.99 and it runs out quite quickly. I came accross this home made alternative and have used it for awhile with great results. I think it is better than Tendskin.

    You need the following:
    Witch Hazel - costs 1.39 for 200ml.
70% Alcohol - not sure how much it costs as a friend gets it for me but probably about the same as the witch hazel.
    Uncoated Aspirin - 79p for 16.
2 x empty bottles with lids.

1.Put 6 fluid oz of the alcohol into one of the bottles, then drop in 18 aspirins, put the lid on and shake it.
2.Put 3 fluid oz of the witch hazel in the other bottle, then drop in 8 aspirins, put the lid on and shake it.
3.Wait for the aspirins to dissolve, I normally leave it overnight and periodically give the bottles a shake. Not all of the aspirins will dissolve.
4.Now combine both the mixes into one bottle, making sure to shake both bottles before doing so. This bottle is now your homemade Tendskin.

I Use it for ingrown hairs, but you can use it for razor rash, aswell as other skin problems. Apparently it also removes fake tan.
Obviously don't use it if you are allergic to aspirin ;) .
  • Tesco's own range called "make up" in the black packaging. You can't beat the face make up, (the all in one stuff not the powder), although both are fab. I shouldn't tell you really because they are nearly always sold out. It's either designed by or recommended by the make up artist Barbara Daly.
Also Asdas own posh face cream has all the gubbins in that the expensive ones do, and still comes in a box.

can anyone tell me if they know of a website which sells "md formulation" products at a cheaper price, its a cleasing product which contains glycolic acid and is great for acne and you do not have to tone or exfoliate, but i can only buy from my beauticians at £45 for a 50ml facial creame. I hope someone out there can help.

Johnson's Holiday Skin is the product you are talking about and it is fantastic! I bought 2 bottles in my local Tesco about 2 weeks ago and they were £4.45 each for 250ml. I had never used the product before, and hoped it would be as good as the advertising. I am very pale and previously always used self-tan. ( I also didn't like Ecotan from QVC) The stuff I used to use cost £11.98 a bottle and I would go through one a month. I tried this 'Holiday Skin' for normal/pale skins and it is marvellous! I have a lovely glowing gentle tan, no streaks, its also a glorious moisturiser. You should try it. Boots stock it also though Tesco sell it cheaper!

I've been using that too, I love it. Nice light, natural colour and no strong smell. Also cuts out the moisturising stage (apart from elbows and knees)

I'll keep an eye out for the Johnsons and try that next. Have you tried the Johnsons cream on your face? Bit nervous about trying it

I just wiped a bit of the excess from my hands on my face, avoiding the eye area. I have sensitive skin, but it was fine.

  • If expensive beauty products really worked then there would be no wrinkly, spotty or cellulite-ridden rich people and we all know that isn't true ;)

On a similar note to mrs.b's excellent tip (#83)...
You may have noticed that many oily skin products contain AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and/or BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid). AHAs are fruit acids but the only BHA is salicylic acid which is...wait for it... asprin!

I make a face mask out of generic asprin tablets that I buy from Netto for 12p! I crush lots of them up in the mortar and pestle and add a little water to make a paste, or you can use a little bit of face cream to make it stickier. I put the very unglam pasty mixture on my face and leave it until it dries out. After I rinse it off my skin is so clean, smooth and bright.

Used regularly it helps control the sebum blockage that leads to spots and I really think it has helped lighten areas of pigmentation that I have. It is also fantastic for men, whether for spots or ingrowing hairs. You should avoid if you are allergic to asprin and test on a small area of your skin first or ask your doctor...don't ask a beautician, they will tell you it's no good and try to sell you their treatments and potions for £££s.

For more info about AHAs/BHA, including info on the necessity of sunblock

I also recommend a book called "Don't Go To The Cosmetics Counter Without Me" by Paula Begoun.
  • I've been using Clarins tinted moisturiser for quite some time and although expensive a 50ml tube can last me almost a year and I use it every day. The last time I bought some in town it cost me £20.50 but I recently bought some online from perfume4u for £15.25 delivered free and it came the next day!

Clarins Hydra-Balance Tinted Moisturizer has a lovely light colour and texture, while also providing added protection for your skin. The extra plant properties added to this tinted moisturiser maintains an even balance of moisture throughout the skin giving more moisture to dry areas and less to oily segments of the complexion. This ensures an even skin tone and texture, no shiny patches or dry flaky spots, just great skin all day long. Clarins have also added an extra firming agent to minimise fine lines and its protective SPF 6, fights against pollution and UV rays to give you a complete moisturiser and light foundation in one!

  • any ideas whats in these products? it seems like they are a bit on the expensive side & act only to irritate your lips...

want something that isnt greasy that will full out some of the tiny fine lines around edges.
