Hi
i hope this will help although i am not sure if the area you live in will make any difference to the assistance you can get...i have been looking for help for my son as he has to have his 17 month old staffie/labrador cross neutered and sadly since he first took his dog on, from a young guy who believed it was okay to kick and hit him to teach him not to go to the toilet in the home despite being an 8 week old puppy (disgusting and evil). Anyway when he first took him into his home and life he was employed, low income but i helped out where possible to ensure he had the correct immunisations and care, also micro-chipped. He is the most loving and intelligent dog but recently has been "humping", visitors to the house, cushions, other dogs (male or female) and it is very embarressing for all concerned, he has also become a bit aggressive to other male dogs totally random and usually dogs bigger than he is which is quite frightening..we have been advised that it should help to have him neutered, our first quote was £180.00, then the best we could find is £140.00 by a private practice. My son lives out of the relevant postcode PDSA assistance although it seems from reading this forum that they would not help in this situation anyway...BUT, i have now found an amazing charity called SPAYWATCH, they are able to assist with the costs of neutering dogs and cats and we have managed to book an appointment for the surgery for next week at a cost of £69.00...a much more manageable amount for my son witha little help from me and his auntie..he is now in receipt of JSA but i know it is worth giving the Spaywatch Charity a look just in case, i found them to be so helpful and they have found a vets literally 10 mins from my sons property so fingers crossed this should be sorted out by this time next week!!!! It is also worth trying an organisation called Celia Hammond, they are in London (Lewisham) and offer help for pets at massively reduced rates.
If anyone reading this is aware of any other options (we are in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire), that are more cost effective, please let me know but if not i do hope this information helps others!!!! I can provide a contact number for anyone who requires this but would rather do it privately by direct email, i am happy for you to contact me to ask!!!!0 -
Which part of the country are you. I live in Lancashire and my vets are wonderful. Having always took my pets to this particular vet when I had a serious problem with one of my dogs the bill was extraordinarily high I asked my vet if there was a chance of going on a payment plan and to my surprise he agreed. We now pay monthly and can change the payment according to how much our pets need the vet. Without my wonderful vet allowing this I would have serious problems getting my pets the care they require. I have just had one of my dogs at the vets because she needed an eye removing. This had cost £300 so I am now paying monthly for this treatment until it is completed. Hope this helps, you don;t know until you ask.:)0

Hi

A wonderful charity, run by a wonderful & dedicated lady (former model) and her staff. They struggle for funds, but the work they do for domestic animals is outstanding. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

Have you explained the situation to the vet? I don't think there is anywhere that will give you financial help now the vet has done the operation, so your best course of action is to try to appeal the insurance companies refusal, providing you have grounds, or else try to negotiate with the vet to pay in installments & see if he will lower his fee's seeing as how you expected the insurance to cover it.
I would like to see vet's have reduced fee's for pensioner's & disabled people that rely on their pet's for company. A lot of older people would love a pet, but put off by the cost of vet charges, especially as the animal ages. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

Hi there
Just wanted to say my animals are the love of my lives had my cats for nearly 17 years,my animals are my children and it's always been that way as I can't have children of my own,may I just say I found it disgusting what that person said if you can't afford an animals care you should have it pts,I am totally disgusted for someone to say that I'm sorry u can't be an animal lover as in the past year I have had to have 3 of my fur babies pts I paid for it also,it's one of the most heart reanching decision I had to make as there mum and I miss them so much everyday my first baby boy had internal bleeding my 2nd baby girl had serve breast cancer and yes she had been spayed but for some reason she still got serve breast cancer she was with me for 13 weeks and then my boy he got serve oral cancer he was with me for 15 wks,to say if u cant afford an animal to just pts I am truly horrified, so if u couldn't afford ur child u would give them up to social services because animals and children r the same thay both have feelings and need pure love and caring,I agree everyone has there own opinions but what was said really angered me a lot as a true animal lover, reason why charity's are there is to help the ppl that r I need that is why thay was set up and thay do an amazing job, sorry to go on just had to responses to that poster xoxo0 -

If a parent couldn't afford to look after their child and thus neglected it, social services would probably take it away anyway.
Animals and children are not the same, and obviously animals do not have the same rights as humans. A child will get free medical treatment as a right, an animal won't.
Although conversely the law will ban people who have neglected or were cruel to their animals from keeping other animals in the future, it does not ban cruel/neglectful parents from having more children. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

I understand what u are saying an I respect ur opinions but to me my animals are my children I can not have my own children so that is how I feel for my babies it's each to there own,we could all go round and round on this it's just down to each and everyone circumasates at the end of the day x0 -

I would appeal the insurer's decisions, but you could ask this charity for help:
http://www.tailwaggersclubtrust.com/index.html
If they cant help then I would ask the vet if I could pay off a certain amount each month?
Good luck & I hope you dog makes a full recovery? x"I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again."

Understand this completely, have known several people with the same viewpoint and have absolutely no problem with this.
However my point was that the law and basically life does not treat animals and children the same and there are many differences between their natures. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
