Yes is it! Dont you ever think to save some of your money??
When the banks take in excess of £250 per month from your account, how do you propose to save? To answer your question, yes I do think to save some of my money.
You broke the T&C of an agreement that you signed, meaning that you agreeded to be charged that amount if you broke the T&C. Read it and weep!

Rightly or wrongly this thread has become a discussion about the legalities of these T&C's. Your intelligent response, 'read it and weep' is duly noted and I thank you for your valuable input. Without it I really would have continued to believe that the charges were illegal and unenforcable at law.

Thank you for enlightening me in such an imaginative and well researched way.

I have, and in my personal opinion, these charges are justified.

    Sorry, you have what?

That is fair enough, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I have the opinion that you came in and attempted to start an argument instead of voice your opinion about punitive bank charges.

I also believe that you are not seeing the "big-picture". These charges amount to 3.5 billion each year. A lot of that money goes to foreign banks. Therefore not good for the UK as a whole. 20% of bank customers get hit with these charges, meaning less money spent in the high-street.
    Yet you support this.

That's exactly what this poster does!

Without being privvy to my personal finances, how would you form an opinion?

    FYI:

I'll admit that I can't control my finances properly. How could anyone who has to wait anything up to 10 days for cheques to clear, gets paid roughly the same time each month (give or take a week), gets considerably underpaid for three months on the trot and incur in excess of £250 charges each month taken at different times, while the whole time not having access to an up-to-date balance (cash machines show uncleared funds and my banks on-line banking doesn't update at weekends) possibly be able to control their finances?
It's not in the banks interest for you to control your own money. Short of checking in a bank about 3 times a day - and to be fair, I actually have a full and varied life to lead instead - I don't think anyone could be completely in control.
I think you will probably find the same things will occur to yourself one day. I hope that you remember this thread at that time.

    I never disputed that.
  • This thread has been a source of valuable information for those of us who have been hit with what we feel are illegal or unfair charges by banks. This information will hopefully enable some or all of us to recover these charges, and may even lead to banks being forced to change their policies, which would undoubtedly benefit all of us. But the useful discussion and exchange of information is becoming hidden amongst posts which contain nothing more than personal criticism. These posts are of no interest or benefit to the majority of those of us viewing this thread. I would therefore like to ask those people who have no interest in the original topic of discussion to take their opinions elsewhere; maybe a new thread could be set up to discuss whether bank charges are the fault of the banks or the customers. I would also ask those people who have an interest in the original topic of discussion not to respond to irrelevant or pointless posts, and get back to the topic in hand.

Well, I can't work it out.

Have you or have you not disputed it?

Sorry, it's just too easy to get sucked in.
