'Ditto ! Bl**dy annoying - I spoke to BT and they came out with some crap about not being able to cancel the request from One.Tel until the day before it was due to be changed over'

this is true BT is not allowed to cancel transfers to other companies to comply with instuctions from ofcom. the only exception to this, is if your were signed up without your permission.

A friend of mine got hers through phoning onetel directly (I'm sure she thought this offer was a joke!). She signed up and was able to pick hers up at a comet as she already had her code. But because she stated that I had recommended her I now get £20 of free phone calls

I’m with One.Tel already and would love to take advantage of this offer, however, my concern is that I still have about £11 of free calls left from the intro offer when I first signed up for InternationalTalk. Does anyone know if I were to take advantage of this offer would I loose this and has anybody else done this with(out) any problems.

    Hey Lugh

I'd suggest doing it anyway - that's what I did (although I am not actually with them for my calls) but they didn't check whether I was registered, what's more they even set up a second separate direct debit with my same account (which I deleted of course). I also phoned them and got cut off by a rude customer service agent and used that as an excuse to stop my landline order :A (yes cheeky I know but they shouldn't have been so rude when I first called).

I don't think they'd take away your £11 credit because they seem to set up a brand new account. Just choose the free call plan and you'll be fine.

Anyway, tis worth it for a DVD player  If they threaten to take away your credit, you could use it up on phoning premium hotlines :D

I just signed up for this over the weekend and got my free DVD player. I'm thinking of sticking with One-tel because I'm a very low user of my home phone (loads of free minutes on mobile) and their line rental is quite low. Are One-tel ok or should I cancel and be looking at other suppliers? I notice most people on this thread are just getting their DVD player and then cancelling - do you all know something I don't?!

Thanks Crazy. I’m actually starting to use up my credit now, thought I might start to take advantage of while I can. And mjk, are you not with 18866? If not, why not sign-up straight away?

I noticed my local Comet had changed the dvd player today to a Proline version ... and it didn't look as good as the Goodmans one.

I went into my Comet today and the woman said it was originally Proline and then changed to Goodmans and now back to Proline. It doesn't look as good but hey it's free and will work. Also, she said the offer has now changed to a mini fridge - but until they get them in stock will be giving the DVD - although they didn't have one of those either but have ordered one for me. Thanks to OP for this - thought I may have missed the offer. There were no signs in store at all.

Does anyone know if the region changing info posted earlier applies to the Proline one too? if not does nayone know how I can change it? thanks

Does anyone here not feel a little guilty that this is bordering on blatent thieving !?

Honestly, its not real moneysaving really now is it if your out to gain the dvd player only...?

By all means, comet is going to be losing a serious amount of money on these goods not to mention the rejected application admin costs as a result. It only leads to store closures, jobs lost etc... and life in this country is getting harder generally as it is. Before anyone mentions comet can afford this or they overchharge etc blah blah, well, no...not really. Comet announced their first serious loss not so long ago....Yes I know some of their sales staff are cocky punk teenage weekender staff, but your pretty stupid to stand there & listen to their garble in the first place and then use that in defence justify robbing them!!

Have pride in your country and economy people....sort it out! (Yes I know they're owned by Kesa!)

Dixons had massive store closures not so long ago too....the high streets are changing!

    slide, slide, slip and slide....

I think you might find that there are offers on this website from Comet which I’m sure some people take up. So I think it’s a bit unfair to say this is tantamount to theft.

Without sounding patronising, it’s good to see there are some consciences consumers out there. I for one would be a more consciences consumers if I could afford it but as it is, with the way of the free market and globalisation, as you know, very difficult. However, this isn’t to say what we have done justifies the means. Plus, I’m sure most of us think about what we are doing before we take advantage of these offers or consider whether what we are doing is right or wrong.

What you have pointed out is thought provoking and I for one do think about what my motives are and I have to say I am not driven by greed as much as I was when I first started to browse this site. After all, the reason I started was, like others, to get the best deals for my money and not necessarily to rip off big business’s. However, who is ripping off whom.

As for the DVD they were giving away, it was always the cheapest in stock or next cheapest, so when it comes to making a profit they will try to make you buy a more expensive one if you were to purchase one. So I don’t think you need to worry about that to much. After all, most consumers automatically think expensive is better than cheap.

It saved me £29 or was it £39.

    Well....logically....

Since a "contract" is being made to take up a service (one-tel), which is then cancelled (the next day !!! - without actually trying it) but happily (greedily?) take the freebie dvd player anyway,....the company loses the product, loses the contract, must pay admin costs for the rejected contract, then logistically replace the (loss leader) product to get other genuine customers in to remain in business, the product also has a warranty, so if a few of those happen to come back for repair, its again going to cost them logistically in getting it fixed or exchanged.....realistically, the unit cost of the DVD player may only be something like £16 but they still take that hit......tell me, what is right or wrong here ?
...get the best deals for my money and not necessarily to rip off big business’s.
    and
It saved me £29 or was it £39.
If intent was to get the best deal for your money, what monetary value did some of the mse'ers claim to pay in this case in order to get the dvd player - which lets honestly say, was clearly the goal ?? The answer is a BIG fat zer000!

That really is scummy, shallow and dishonest and I wish people had a little more integrity if this was the intent....it is quite sad really.

I would bet any money that an individual who had to buy say a £1000 tv from an electrical retailer and was offered either the choice of £30 off or given a DVD player with a listed price of £39 they would opt for the £30 discount. Its fact.

I dont think any genuine good saleperson would ever simply consistently try to always sell the highest valued item...it just doesnt work like that....people who think like that have got it all utterly wrong. If you happen to find yourself in a situation face to face with a salesperson clearly giving you the only option of most expensive as best...then your talking to someone who is clearly new and knows little and should not be trusted....the best thing you can do is ask to move onto another salesperson and try your luck there, let the saleperson hit their own learning curve head on....chances are, they are going to be a 17-22 year old still being educated in some form! You would be doing them a favour by making them think twice when they dont get the smaller sale ending up out of pocket and learning the facts of life & honesty. The world would be a better valued place!!!

Like I said before.....its not real moneysaving really now is it if your out to gain the dvd player only...?

Whether you can afford something or not....just do the right thing....this is just scamming otherwise.

Have a little pride in your country and economy people...
