I saw this offer a couple of weeks ago in Comet!

It was also on the comet website but seems to have disappeared. The DVD player on offer in store was a Proline. while it could be possible Currys are doing the same offer as Comet, It is unlikely.

I signed up for the offer at Comet, the offer says to celebrate the launch of Comet offering One.Tel, we are giving away a Goodmans DVD2200 for anyone who signs up IN STORE. Just look for the DVD players which are positioned by the tills.

However it's locked to region 2, and I can't find a hack on videohelp or dvdhacks to make it region free. So if anyone knows my 2 sons would be forever grateful, then once more we can have lion king on all day (it's a bit like watching the BBC) repeats.

Huge thanks to the OP. I went in to Comet today just on the off-chance and not expecting to be lucky enough to find this offer. Went up to the DVD section and checked for notices about a free DVD: none. On my way out of the store one of the assistants approached me and asked if I had a BT land line (hurrah!). I said yes, as a matter of fact I did and played innocent - whereupon he told me all about this offer and I signed up and went away with my free DVD player! Fantastic. The One.Tel offer does seem quite good - free weekend calls and their prices for non-free calls undercut BTs (not that that would be difficult)! You keep your BT line and phone number too.

Anyone in the Twickenham area the offer is definitely running at Comet there - there are leaflets at the till, though these don't mention the free DVDs. I was told the offer had been running for 3 months but that there are plenty of free DVDs still up for grabs. Good luck to everyone else.

Does anyone know if, by doing what op did and ringing up to cancel contract imediately, you then have a legal obligation to give the DVD player back? Or indeed if there's any way Onetel would even know you got a free dvd player?

I'm a pessimist, and always assume the worst, however I'd love to get my parents a DVD player at last!

    Hi,

I haven't read all the small print but from what I have read there is nothing to indicate that you can't simply cancel immediately and I was also assured by Comet that the DVD was mine to keep regardless of whether I should choose to cancel the One.Tel deal. Anyway I think I'll try it out as the deal seems pretty good and One.tel say they guarantee they will be cheaper than BT Together prices or they'll give you a year's worth of free calls. It takes 7 days for the One.Tel welcome pack to arrive, apparently. When you sign up they take bank account details to enable One.Tel to charge you for those calls you make which aren't free under this plan. You continue to pay your line rental to BT.

If you really just want the DVD I think it shd be OK to get it and then cancel immediately - but you should just double-check with Comet and read the agreement to make absolutely sure.

Time to bring this great offer to the top. Its in Comet NOT Currys. You do not sign up for a set length contract and can cancel at any time, like the next day!!!
It took 5 minutes for a DVD free player they sell for £40. There was not even any request for ID so I could have made everything up, but I didn't ofcourse as that would be naughty.
