Hello Weezl, just curious as to what your planning on making?
I bought some bright cotton fabric yesterday, 3 1/2 yards of 36 wide, from a charity shop, for £2!!!! I plan to make some clothes for the granddaughter.
I also picked up several yards (Not measured it yet) of a batic type satin/print fabric in said same charity shop for £3.50. Fancy a shift dress out of it for me, or a wrap skirt.
I have also been challenged by my BF to make some covers for his mobile phone, and a few other ideas to make things out of the remenants after I have made my cushion covers. So I better get sewing soon!. (I hope to start sewing on a regular basis so the machine is now up in the dining room. Permanantly. Infront of the window so I can see, as the room is a bit dark.). I have even thought about changing the sittingroom and dinning room around becuase of the light, but don't think I can fit the sofa through the small doorway between the rooms. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

My DD1 did this in her Young Embroiderers the other week - they had a piece of felt and plenty of scraps of material, ribbons etc (the sort of size you would normally throw out as being useless!) They ironed bondaweb on to the piece of felt, then placed various scraps of material over the bondaweb and ironed them in place, then just decorated them with sequins, ribbons sewn on to cover the raw edges, shisha mirrors - all kinds of things - then made cords and sewed them on so they could be slung across the shoulder. I think a small piece of material and a button would be a good idea just to close the top over too.0 -
Hi. Perhaps off topic and a bit of a long shot but anyone live in Leeds and would put me some new pockets in trousers for a decent price? My local shop wanted to charge £12.50 per pocket. Might have been even more actually! And if, you know, your history...0

I have been collecting patterns from Prima for a year now and I finally have my new sewing machine! Going to practise on a few scraps of material first and then I will be ready to create a wardrobe of clothes that I actually want to wear!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Just another thought to add regarding making the pattern bigger.............
I would trace the pattern onto pattern paper and leave the original intact.
Where do you get your pattern paper from Rikki ?
Or do you just use big sheets of ordinary paper ?Don't Take Life too Seriously - Nobody gets out alive :rotfl:0 -

have the pockets come away around the opening, or do you just have holes in them? - if its holes, then just get some bondaweb cover the holes with some fabric and iron in place
or try your local haberdashy shop, they should sell pocket reinforcements, that you can also iron in place

Hi,
You can get "proper" pattern paper from online haberdashery sites - not sure if I'm allowed to mention names on here, if you'd like some names happy to PM them to you. It can be quite expensive but wears well (much better than commercial patterns so it can be used and reused without tearing).
I bought a big roll of artist's paper some years back when doing an art/craft course and tend to use that, plus newspaper on occasion when the pattern is straightforward and doesn't have too many markings.
Hope this helps.TRH

£12.50 A POCKET ????? Think I need to change my business plan.... now....
Suggest you have a look at repairing them as per Flea's comments. If that's not possible, it should be fairly straightforward to replace the whole pocket provided they haven't gone at the seam where they join the trousers and it certainly shouldn't cost anything like that amount. Have a look at yell.com to see if there are any dressmakers in your area, or have a look in local newsagent's windows. Failing that, if you have a local college which runs any craft/sewing-type courses (including evening classes) you may be able to get someone to replace them for you much more cheaply.
Hope this helps.TRH
