Where do you get your pattern paper from Rikki ?

Or do you just use big sheets of ordinary paper ?

Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but if it's a pattern you are likely to use a lot you could trace it onto non-fusible interfacing.

I always use rolls of greaseproof paper, if its not wide enough I just cellotape it together. I have done this for over 30 years. Even when I was running my wedding dress business.

However, if i run out i use gardening fleece (the white type, not black) - can be bought by the metre in most garden centres for about £1 a metre

Re my pockets. Thanks for the suggestions. I was amazed at the price she quoted. The pockets have gone in the middle. My fiancee sewed them up once but they went again quite quickly. Been on back pockets only for about 3 months now! Not great when I forget and sit down, either crushing my mobile, embedding my keys in my !!! or some combination of them both!
And if, you know, your history...

Perhaps you could strengthen them by ironing on some interfacing?
If I lived closer I would do it for you!. I used to do it for our local drycleaners. Several years ago now, I must admit.

Have washed and dried the piece of fabric that I got from the charity shop last week. Got to galvanise myself to iron it. So I can then use it.!
Looking outside the rain is still here, so gardening would not be the best thing to do at the moment.
Lunch then time to clear the table and get sewing.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been away. :)

    Burda Tracing Paper from Jaycotts.

    Swedish Sewing Paper Kwik trace.

I tend to use burda paper for one off garments and the Swedish style paper for garments I am going to make more than one of.

Here-in lies the problem. if putting keys and bulk items like mobile phones in your pockets, then they will split - the only option is to strengthen the pockets, but if you do this, it will put strain on other areas when you sit down, like the seam where it joins the trouser, so something has to give, and it will most likely be the trouser fabric, rather than the pocket

Easiest answer is to remove offending items, before sitting down

Yes, cut the pattern pieces in half lengthways and then in half across the width a lay out the pieces to the size you want. Check first that the sleeve/armholes are going to be large enough as that is a tricky area to enlarge. Maybe someone else has some ideas for that?

    Bella.

    just for your info folks.

pattern sizing for vintage patterns is very different to todays,

sizes 10 to 16 were for ages 10 to 16!!!!! so a size 14 pattern would be for a 14 year old girl.

womens sizes were for bust sizes 34" to 40" generally, sometimes you can get a 42" pattern.

also remember that sizing for shoulders, hips and waists tended to be much smaller as they reflected how slim people were, due to rationing, poverty etc. knew this info would someday come in useful.

First cravat sample made. Noticed a fault in the pattern so using greaseproof paper, I have drawn up another pattern and will attmpt a second sample tomorrow. Meanwhile made a couple of envelope cushions out of recycled fabrics.
Plan to make a babies dress tomorrow out of recycled fabrics aswell.
