How do you make these?
I often order through Jaycotts for patterns - they are quite reliable.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0 -

I've just bought a pure linen sheet on sale to make a jacket and a top with, my sis (doesn't sew) thought I'd completely lost it! But it was so wide, 227 cm I'll get heaps out of it, and it was much cheaper than buying dressmaking linen on the roll.
You could use your sheet as a 'practice' skirt, just practising putting in a zip, checking the fit etc and then treat yourself to some pretty fabric after that. It sounds like a pain to do that, but honestly, it will pay off in the end if you have a perfectly fitting pattern that you can use over and over again without having to worry about the fit.
Thanks for the advice Mrs F. I'll give the skirt a miss then until I get some better fabric. I have a couple of pieces of Poly/cotton sheeting, so will do a practice run with one of those first. I quite like the idea of trying a top in it though, so I'll have a go. It's so cheap, it won't matter if I make a hash of it.
I've just bought 7 new patterns off ebay from Canada (a bargain I think, as it was just over £20 including postage). There's a pattern for several tops and one for an easy pull-on skirt - thought the easier the better to start with:rolleyes:
Only paid for them yesterday, so don't expect to get them for at least a week - can't wait:D

I got mad mad busy sewing a few weeks ago.
I found an A line skirt pattern that really fitted well with an elasticated waist so made 2 georgette lined skirts by sewing the lining and skirt tops together for the wistband and stitching an inch below leaving a space for elastic. I did rolled hems in minutes on my overlocker and straight sewed the lining hem so the skirt hem was a little fluted. Then I did tops (6 in all) two in georgette to each match a skirt. Th other 4 tops were in plain self-coloured cream, pale blue and pink and perfectly matched the skirts.
I found some organic fairtrade cotton and made 4 pairs of fairly loose trousers. I think they took less than 2 hours for each pair. I had previously tweaked the pattern so they fitted fine. They were more expensive but so cool ie not hot

ok that was my holiday wardrobe sorted and that is what I took to Italy together with the noile silk tops (patra) that I already had and I felt cool and comfortable and smart , particularly as I had made scarfs from remnants of the georgette skirts. My evening outfits in georgette cost about £8 each

and another patterned one that has sold out
and my tops about £1 each using this fabric

I bought some lovely cream linen/cotton on a market in Italy so here I go again!!! :T0 -
Am going to try a sewing club tonight! I don't think I will be able to get there every time, but it will be lovely to make some like-minded friends. Plodding along with chorus sewing project. Own stuff must wait!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Hi all, have been away for a long weekend so haven't been online for a bit.
kittie your wardrobe sounds gorgeous! I bet it was so cool and chic.
racklen using old T shirts is a great idea, just be sure that the stretch of the fabric goes round you and not up and down, otherwise you won't be able to get the boxers on.
purpleivy lucky you having a sewing club close by! I am just a loner really plodding on in the face of adversity..... I hope you have a great time
caleoI'm so sorry you're still having problems with sewingpatterns.comI hope it gets resolved soon.
Lily Lu yay on the patterns! That's a huge bargain. Good luck with them.
Well the hot weather has caught me out *again* and although I have a few summery clothes ready and waiting I really need to cut out some more tops. I have ordered some navy cotton suiting online which I hope will get here this week for a simple jacket to go with the navy wide leg trousers I made a couple of weeks ago but as yet having nothing to wear on top
Might be too warm to sit in the sewing room today though as it's the same room that the computer lives in and the heat from that plus the sun through the window makes it a bit uncomforable. Might just sit out in the garden with a book or two and the cat instead0 -
It was so hot yesterday. I had the two doors in the lounge open, a cool breeze blowing through, and I started on a Mei Tai sling for my hols. No room in the car for a double pushchair, so the older one can walk, and if she gets too tired or too grumpy (well, she is 2!!! ), I can put her in the pushchair and carry the baby in the sling.
Hopefully will get that finished later today.......otherwise it won't be till the weekend!
I wish it was easier to find the time!!!

Mrs Flittersnoop, I am in the middle of a TIP  today as I am changing winter to summer and I haven`t enough cool bottoms ie skirts. The clothes are all over my bed and floor and didn`t my dh start tidying his stuff at the same time. Grhh I just wanted my own space, anyway the gentle hint worked.
I tried a pair of trousers this morning and they were far too hot. The holiday trousers have been packed away as the cotton is quite thin. I am rediscovering enough tops but A line skirts here we come. I`ll be sewing like crazy again tomorrow
Its amazing how a draught in the nether regions is far cooler0
