Reporting back on yesterday's shop. Leon's is a fab shop! A real Aladdin's cave.

I got a pattern for a hoodie, but am going to make it up in a very very thin jersey to keep the mozzies off in the evenings on hols, also will travel in it I think. Got the fabric too.

Also got another pattern for a top, which I like, got it home and read the instructions, it's more complicated than I thought. Should be OK as it's only described as one grade above beginner. It sort of crosses on the bust, you have to twist the pieces somehow. Was thinking it was a suitable project for the 'new' overlocker, but some of it may be too complicate for that.

Am hoping to book on Overlocker course shortly.

Hi Purpleivy - I was in Leon's yesterday too! What a fab shop. I have just started dressmaking again. I bought a New Look pattern for a dress that had been recommended on another site & some very nice printed cotton. When I had bought this I saw a roll of fabric that had not been unpacked yet, a floral print that was exactly what I was looking for. I plan to get on quickly with what I bought yesterday so I can go back to buy the floral & make another dress!
  • Yay Aussie! That looks great! I bet DGS will love it,my two always wanted beanbags but we never had the room for one.

Leons sounds a great place to shop, you lucky lot *envy envy*. However I must confess I did buy a couple of pieces of *horribly expensive* fabric in Paris last weekend when there for a break with OH. Haven't found a pattern I want to make with them yet though.

I'm SO jealous of the lucky French seamstresses, the range of buttons and trims in Galeries Lafayette in Paris nearly made me swoon. In fact they were so good I couldn't think straight and ended up buying nothing!! Kicking myself now of course but too late.

purpleivy the twist tops are very popular and are apparently much easier to make than it appears. I like the look but with my enormous bust they would look horrendous on me.

I'm going to cut out a couple of pairs of nice easy casual trousers today so that I can retire a few pairs of the wintery ones which are looking very sad and are a bit warm to wear. I have a top and a skirt already cut out so really should get on with it, but for now my sewing mojo seems to be on the wane so I'm having to give myself a severe talking to. I'm not fond of the cutting and preparation process but it does pay dividends in the end.

Aussie, that beanbag looks great! :T

Mrs F, I know how you feel - my sewing mojo has started to seep away, but I think it is because my machine is poorly :( Also, I have discovered the crochet mojo so have been making baby hats with the Wooligans - I do like making things and they are great because you get an impressive result faster than on a sewing machine!

Anyhow, today I am going to tackle my unruly wardrobe and make space in it for the bed linen, then I can use the bed linen basket to keep fabric in. I bought some cheesecloth from Abakhan's not so long ago but not used it yet, so hopefully I'll find where I [strike]hid[/strike] put it. A kaftan is on the horizon...

Oh, yeah, and there might be the small issue of an essay to write this weekend

Ah well, Mrs F. I'm not exactly fried egg material myself, but if you have it, flaunt it! While they're looking there they aren't homing in on my tum or anything else!

We go to Galeries Lafayette in Nice sometimes when we're at my aunt's, but I don't remember a fab haberdashery dept? Visited Lyon last year and went to the home of the Jacquard loom, went to the museum. Stuff in there too expensive to even breathe in the presence of, but in the neighbourhood there was a really fabulous haberdasher.

Hi Mrs G Do you live far from Leon's. Do you know the area? What I missed was somewhere for MIL to take me for a coffee!

:rotfl: :rotfl: trust me, these babies do NOT need any more flaunting! I spend most of my time trying to disguise them as extra hand luggage or something...

The haberdashery at the GL in Paris was on the fourth floor, tucked away in their 'Crafts' department, don't know if it's the same for other branches. Definitely worth a snoop if you happen to be moseying along the Boulevard Haussman at any time. I think the French do fabulous haberdashery in lots of towns, I remember when we stopped off at a motorway shopping complex somewhere or other on the way back from holiday once there was a teeny little haberdashery tucked into the corner - Flittersnoop heaven as I'd had a horrible journey with two miserable small people so I dived in there while they went and dined on horseburgers or something and bought myself a soothing couple of metres of lovely braid.

I've cut out the trousers, yay! :T Just going to trace off a top pattern I've dug out now for the crinkle cotton I bought last weekend and then I might, just, kick the Bernina into action this afternoon after all.

I'm off to an Embroiderer's Guild meeting tonight - the members are having a sale of their unwanted items - materials etc, so I'm going to have a look and see what's there. Some people make their own clothes, so I'm going to see what material is available. A friend of mine has a lot of materials for quilting and she said I can have them all (there's quite a lot apparently) when she's finished all her final exams in June. I'm drooling at the very thought! I'm getting as bad as my mum. She could have opened her own fabric shop at one stage with all the materials she had :rotfl:

I live in North Manchester, about 20 - 30 mins drive but there are so few fabric shops around now. it is worth the drive plus I can park outside. I haven't looked on Bury Market for years - they used to have some good fabric stalls.
Chorlton has some very good cafes you'll have to look for some next time you are there.

I emailed them today because i`d put in an order on the 4th April and before i always got my patterns within a week.
I told them that over here in the UK people were worried incase they were going bust and they would`nt order anything else.
They replied that my order was slighly delayed in the shipping dept and i`d get in within 4 - 5 days.
Will keep you all posted. ;)
