  • I use the bottles of Supercook orange extract - about 1 tsp for 12 buns - it costs about £1 for a little bottle but goes quite a long way. The kids like orange flavoured buns with choc chips

How about if I bought an orange - can I bung the zest in?
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

yes - zest more important than juice for flavour. good luck.

Err....that's not essence, its a 40% proof orange liqueur

Oooops, I'm such a pleb :o:o ....can't you just tell I'm not used to the finer things in life :D:D

So, if it's really posh stuff, then yes, the bleeding obvious, drink it and enjoy! If you really can't bring yourself to be so boring :p , then by all means shove it in the muffins :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:, it will probably give them a real good "kick"............... although I'm with leighton on this one, I still think it will need the orange zest in there as well, if you could manage it!

I await the outcome with interest!

(and look forward to taste testing the results!!)

Yeah - it's dead posh, which is why I don't know what I'm doing with it. :o So....I could put the liqueur in. All of it? Half?

Well now, as you may remember, I am a bit prone to the scientific approach, so I think you first of all need to establish how strong the flavour is in your liqueur (:D ).

I would suggest a taste test is in order! You don't want to overwhelm your muffins now do you? (ooh err!)

I think that the main orange flavour in my recipe comes from the zest rather than the orange juice so, once you've established how strong your liqueur is you can make a judgement on how much will be needed to flavour the mixture and whether or not you need to add any zest in what percentage proportions etc..............

On the other hand, you could just bung about half a bottle in and see what happens!

Seriously, I wouldn't put the full bottle in, probably too much liquid and WAAAAAAAY too strong. I'd still be tempted to put the orange zest in though, just miss out the orange juice from the original recipe.

    good luck!!

I bet you could make REALLY good chocolate orange muffins if you used some chopped up Terry's chocolate orange ...

Or chocolate coconut ones with chopped up Bounty bars and coconut frosting ....

I'll have a go with ½ and see what happens. :D

  • Probably better to do something a bit more subtle, like soaking raisins in it overnight and then using them? Then you can see how much liquid the raisins 'drink', and you reduce the risk of ending up with soggy goo muffins. ;)
