Actually I phoned a local Nursing Home this afternoon but was told they are only allowed to use foodstuffs from approved suppliers...the person I spoke to was very apologetic but said they have to abide by the rules! Will try the warden of the Sheltered Housing complex tomorrow...you wouldn't think it would be so difficult to give stuff away would you.....
Wonder if you can advertise foodstuff on the Freecycle thingy??An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

I made strawberry jam for the first time last year and it wasn't that hard at all. You don't need any special equipment, just a saucepan and clean jam jars. By memory it's equal weight of strawberries and sugar and lemon juice. Look in the recipe index as I think there is a good microwave recipe for strawberry jam. HTH.
Once you taste home made jam, the shop bought stuff will never taste the same.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
I bought a whole tray of strawberries last year and this is what I did with them.
Puree them with some sugar (icing sugar dissolves quickly giving a nice texture) . Add to plain yogurt, pour over fruit salad, mix with whipped cream and crushed meringues, if you've got an ice cream maker churn with cream or yogurt for ice cream (or without either for sorbet). Another good idea is to pour it into lolly moulds for the kids.0 -

How about a strawberry flan. I made one the weekend and it was delicious!!
If I'm not able to use strawberries up straight away I'll freeze them and use them in smoothies when I need them

I'm afraid I'd just pig out on them! I love strawberries. I haven't bought any this year because they are so flippin' expensive.0
