you may want to check your loft to make sure they are not living in there they sometimes get in under the eaves

I think you may be right on that one, I heard something scratching about up there and I did notice a hole in the eaves where the electricity cable goes through has got bigger. I shall have to be brave and have a look. Perhaps I'd better get one of those sonic things and put it in the loft as well. I had to keep all the windows and doors closed today, even had a squirrel sitting on the door step!! Wasn't in the least bit afraid of me , only ran off when I rattled the door.

Back to my original post. Has anyone any experience of the sonic squirrel deterrents? A squirrel was sitting on my doorstep waiting to come in this morning, it wasn't in the least be frightened when I banged on the glass, I shall have to do something about it.

As far as i'm aware squral's are virtually impossible to get rid off . As suggested first check your loft if it's a one off I wouldn't worry about it but if they're in the loft then you may have problems. I had this problem where by a squral was squating in my loft :-).

Especially if they have off spring they are very difficult to get rid off, even if you block all access they will attempt to ripe tiles off just to get into the loft space.

They only way to get them out from the loft space is:

    1) get council in to poisen them
    2) Capture them and drive them really far away so they can't find their way back

I haven't heard any noises from the loft for over a week, so anything up there has either left or died! It may have even been a bird in the chimney. I just need to stop them coming into the house through an open door or window.

if they are red squirrels i think you will find that they are protected in some way and no you cannot kill them or poison them and if you are just a little forward thinking and put a few nuts and the like out for them away from the house in something that them have to work at to get out then you shouldn't have much of a problem but on the other hand if they are greys then nuke them and help to protect the native reds - but whats the big deal about the squirrel comming into the house its not much different than the neighbours cat comming in for a look
 while i knit i think

They're greys unfortunately, I don't want them in the house as I believe they're destructive.

Read the very last quote on this page - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/4428030.stm

As for catching them (if you really don't want to kill them) then take a look at this humane trap - http://www.trapman.co.uk/how-to-catch-the-squirrel-in-my-loft.htm - Just remember that there may be more than one so don't celebrate and give up when you catch the first one.

Dont leave treats for it to 'keep it outside' because it will just keep coming back!!!
AFAIK if you catch a grey squirrel technically you are not supposed to let them go. They are vermin.
you can get squirrel traps from ebay for £15 or thereabouts.
A squirrel got in our cellar through the iron grate over the coal hole but the silly b died, was too daft to make its way out again!
    but they are also edible;)
