Fixing a broken zip?
Comments

No you don't need a new zip, just a new slider, find a good alterations/repairs shop and they should be able to sort it for you. We repair zips like this all the time, it's a real moneysaver as having a zip replaced is quite expensive.0

My son has broken the zip on his fleece and I don't know if it is fixable or not!
The metal bit that runs up and down has come completely off and the very bottom of the zip is a little bit mangled.
Any ideas how to fix as otherwise it is a perfectly good jacket and I don't want to bin it unless I have to.0 -
With any luck there will be a local place that can fit a new one for you at a fairly low cost.
(Assuming you can't replace it yourself)0 -
it was only at £6 fleece from Primark so it may end up costing more to fix than to buy a new fleece. Too mean to buy a new one unless I really have to!0

there is a way of doing it. If you can zip it up then sew around near the bottom of the zip so it doesnt come apart and you just pull the zip down to just above the sewn bit it should last a bit longer. Hope it makes sense!Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

Thanks, might give that a try but the main problem is that the runner has come right off the zip and I can't seem to get it back on.0

If you cut off the bottom few teeth on the zip, then you could feed the fastener back on and sew it where you cut so it cant come off (Im rubbish at describing things, sorry
)

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread to see if there are hints there for you:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0

I have a fab pair of padded overalls I use for work, they were quite expensive originally so I don`t want to scrap them and can`t afford to buy another pair (at this moment in time can`t even afford to buy another zip!)
The zip`s gone, waaaiiiillll.....
Please does anyone know how to repair one? It`s doing that thing where it will zip up then come apart if you know what I mean...won`t stay closed like it should.
I`ve had a look and the teeth do look aligned ok so not sure what the problem is.
Any help gratefully appreciated."Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0
