Debenhams new return policy?

I agree with the other posters. I work in customer service, and often put out posters with various information on, it is irritating when people clearly don't bother reading them. The information was clearly in front of your eyes and you could easily have read it. You can't expect every store to contact you personally every time they change something, not everyone spoon-feeds their customers like that. You have to take some intiative and read any notices around the shop.
As far as I know, most shops are open out of school hours. Could you not have taken your daughter in the evening or at the weekend to try the clothes on? Or is your local Debenhams only open 9-3 on weekdays? Is there a reason why you had to specifically go during those hours? Could you not find the dresses on Debenhams website?
It is perfectly normal to expect people to try things on in store before they buy. I would have thought it was easier for you to do this as you then don't need to make a return journey bringing back the unwanted clothes - you just make the 1 journey, try on and buy and that's it. The store provides changing facilities for this purpose. I thought it was also quite normal not to be able to return sale items. Don't see the problem really.
Are we all so perfect that we always claim to read every damn sign that's hanging around a till,no.0 -
I am happy with the idea that Debenhams don't give a refund on sale items, it's a good method to stop people from buying a whole bunch of stuff on credit and then returning it all at no profit to the store!
HOWEVER.
I bought a handbag from Debenhams, intending to use it for a birthday night out. It was from the Warehouse concession stand, and I didn't think twice about the fact I wouldn't be able to take it back...
I ended up using an old bag, and decided to return the warehouse bag, tags still on etc, the next day. The lady at the till told me I couldn't have a refund as it was sale stock (fair enough) but also that I couldn't have a store credit as it was a WAREHOUSE item and therefore I had to spend the money in the warehouse concession.
Now here's where it gets difficult. I am fine to swap my purchase for a different bag, or item of clothing from Warehouse. But the concession in my local Debenhams is TINY (only a few items, and some really ratty sale stuff) and short of going to another Debenhams and trying their Warehouse concession, I'm not sure I'll find anything worth swapping it for (at least, not within the 28 day timescale).
So my question is this - if you're returning sale goods to Debenhams but they're refusing a Debenhams store credit, will they give you a Warehouse one instead? And if not, can I even take the item back to a Warehouse store and swap it there? I just don't like being constrained to choosing from a tiny range, I'd prefer a bit of choice...this has all been caused by my pickiness and indecisiveness in the first place!0 -
I'm really cross - hopping mad  I had no idea that Debenham's had changed their return policy.."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

In regards to making the refund at debenhams, you would have to go by the debenhams rules. The concession is part of debenhams and warehouse wont accept items back brought from Debenhams. I found this policy the other day with debenhams i returned a faulty item, they wouldnt give me a gift voucher had to swap them there and then argh! only other thing, loose your receipt if warehouse has got it in stock and try your luck?
Also, when in doubt its best to buy online with debenhams using there free PP code, as there oblidged to refund any items with proof of purchase brought online as per distant trading laws.Learning to be 'good with money'0 -
Hi not wrote on here before but if someone could answer my question please.
On Thursday 27/5/10
I bought a top with lots of sequins on for silver wedding party which was on Friday 28th I wore it for a while then noticed that some sequins had come off, it was a butterfly pattern so you can tell. It is a red herring top & cost me £55 wasnt cheap,I took it back today to get an exchange or a credit note,I was told in no uncertain terms that I couldnt have an exchange or credit note as its classed as wear&tear!!! Fair enough after a few months or more but one wear!
The manager said that it was hand stitched which I would have thought it would be better quality & was why a little bag of sequins were provided which is laughable as noticed there are other little patches coming off too.
I said if I had been told this I wouldn`t have bought it, it never said that on the label I am fuming at the unfairness of this as Ive never bought anything with a lot of sequins on but I thought I`d glam up for my party. To add insult to injury I was taking a bracelet back as well that had a bead come off it but didnt have time after arguing my case with the top, had to go to work so still have that delight to come!!! So can anyone tell me if they have had this experience & any advice.
Many Thanks.0 -

OK sorry. I can only say in my defence that the date is quite small and not in big red letters. I don't think I am the first to be confused by someone adding onto an earlier thread..
Hmmm, add to that a busy shop, queue pushing behind you, posters possibly obscured until you reach the desk when you will be distracted...one might say it is easier to miss something in those circumstances than when it is front of your face on a screen.
There are so many goal post moves that not even staff are always up to date - twice in M&S recently I checked the policy during sale times. First time I was reassured that returns were the normal 28 (or whatever) days; at this point the SA was interrupted by another who disputed it, saying clothing from this rail had 'no returns'. Next time I checked the SA asserted 'no returns' on items with marked tags, including my one. I pointed out that it bore no mark, wherupon she grabbed a pen and declared, 'it has now' !!0
