I always use a squirt of lemon juice in some hot water "nuked" for three mins
Then just wipe out the microwave with cloth
and magically the smell disappears and I have clean microwave ..... This method has always worked for me

    Hope this helps

Half of a used lemon in a bowl of water, boil in the microwave for a few minutes. The lovely smell is in the zest on the skin rather than in the juice so don't waste a new lemon.

I don't have any washing powder or lemon juice at the moment, so I have tried washing liquid in some water and the house smells lovely now. Will have wait to find out if the microwave still smells next time I use it. If it does, I'll be off to buy some lemon juice :)

EDIT: The washing liquid in some water worked a treat - my microwave smells of washing liquid each time I use it now - thanks :)

i think im going to end up getting a new microwave as i cant get rid of the smell,
it smells of old cooked food
there is no splashes and it is clean
    i have dishwashered the bits
i have had bicarb in there to absorb the smell
    ileave the door open
is there anything else i can do, it is in perfect working order and about 5 yrs old
please tell me i dont need another
im convinced i can taste the smell now
  • On How Clean Is Your House, they put a jug with vinegar and lemon juice I think in there, and put it on to cook. Not sure for how long.

Then scrubbed the inside, especially the roof and all the scuzz comes off easy. Apparently. And it smells good. Apparently. :)

hal a cup of water with half a lemon or lime in - zapped for a couple of mins - the citrusy steam really freshens it up

    Hi hmc,

Lemon juice works for me too. These threads may help:

I'll add your thread to the first link later to keep the suggestions together.

Put it in for 5 mins. Try to use a wide bowl as the steam hits more of the inside. leave for 10 mins to steam inside and repeat.:)
