Microwaving lemon juice or pieces of whole lemon in a bowl of water works.
Here I go again on my own....

Put about a tablespoon of lemon juice on a damp dishcloth (or a small bowl of water) and nuke for about a minute. Works a treat.

    Hi ebaybaby,

This older thread may help: cleaning the microwave

I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep all the suggestions together.

My darling husband has just got home and made himself boiled eggs in our microwave using some plastic egg boilers intended for this very purpose.

We've had them for years and not had any problems with them, but today one exploded (can only assume one of the seals has gone) and has coated the inside of the microwave with scrambled egg.

I'm not worried about the cleaning, but would like some tips on how to get rid of the horrible eggy smell now wafting through the house.

Otherwise I'll have to continue looking like this! _pale_

Try putting a fresh sliced lemon in a jug of water and heating it in the microwave. That'll sort out the microwave itself. As for the rest of the house, if you don't use air fresheners, open windows and hope for the best, or burn some incense if you have any.

    Hiya,

Am sure I read somewhere that if you put some lemon juice in a plastic container and pop in microwave on high for a minute or so, it should take smell away... Never tried it personally so might not work but is worth a go I guess!!

  • i always have supermarket own brand lemon and lime juice in bottles on standby for cleaning puposes :):)
  • Hi everyone,
I have a problem. My housemates only eat cheap ready meals (mostly cottage pie!) which, as I'm sure you all know, stink to high heaven. Given that they often eat 2 dinners each and the fact that the smell is so strong it's now permanently embedded in the microwave, which happens to belong to me. I can't very well tell them they can't use my microwave any more but I find the smell utterly revolting and it taints anything I put in there. I've tried everything I can think of to clean it and get the smell out but nothing has worked so far. Slices of lemon in water heated up hasn't worked, endless cleaning with surface sprays etc hasn't worked and I'm really at my wits' end. Any advice lovely people?

Have you tried leaving the door wide open when it's not in use? Sounds like it needs a bit of fresh air.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D
