Yes, we have noticed too. We started doing our main shopping from Aldi again and topping up at Tesco. There are also very few bonus point codes around which were a good incentive to shop online for me.

My father-in-law has recently retired and is using his free time harassing Tesco by mail about their price increases. :D
  • I guess I'm lucky because I have a Lidl, Aldi, Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys within 30 minutes walking distance from my house. I've always shopped at Asda but when I moved house, as Tesco was the closest, I thought I'd try a couple of shopping trips there. Can't believe how expensive it is compared to Asda, so I avoid Tesco as much as possible now. Even the lure of clubcard points don't convince me to change my shopping habits. Besides when there's 2 people and 2 dogs in the household, I wouldn't spend enough in Tesco to take full advantage of clubcard free holidays courtesy of Mr T! Think the final straw was their "half price" fruit and veg offers, and a quick check on mysupermarket revealed that Asda was still considerably cheaper than Tesco's offers!

I am trying to cut down on food costs even more though, so I've started doing as much as possible in Aldi or Lidl, fruit and veg from the local market, and the rest from Asda. I'm saving about £20 a week doing that! ;)

Unfortunately food inflation causes increases in prices. ...... There are various reasons. Not neccassarily a con.

Inflation, yes. But Tesco try to con their customers.

For example, large 3kg bags of pasta shapes used to be £1 last year. Now, I know that wheat has increased a lot, but surely not to the level where Tesco need to increase the cost of their pasta to £2.55. That smacks of profiteering to me ..... but who would be surprised at anything Tesco got up to?

Before Dec 07 Party Rings were 50p for a packet and suddenly they went up to 79p and havent gone back down, I went to Home Bargains yesterday and found them for 55p! and much more sooo cheap like perfectly clear big bottles for 19p etc usually get fresh fruit from Lidl then go to Tesco and buy things on offer/clearance.
I agree prices have gone up compared to other places... in Asda you can get a small packet of mince which isnt the smart price for 50p whereas in Tesco it is 79p...

I had my fortnightly shop delivered yesterday ( due to plastered foot) and not only was it lot more expensive than asda or morrisons but the dates on the products are shocking.
I ordered walkers crisps and they were dated the 9th Feb 08- delivered 5/2/08 !!!

Admittedly I did ring customer services and they refunded me the cost, but that's not the point- I didnt wanted short dated products which won't last a week, let alone 2 weeks!!!

    Hello,

This is a really interesting topic, so thank you for the OP and for everyone who has posted!
We are a family of 2 adults, 2 children and normally shop at Tesco's (over the years we have benefited a lot from Clubcard deals - Tussauds Annual Passes for 5 years and a free £4k kitchen last year from MFI all paid for with Clubcard points)

I agree, the total weekly shopping at Tesco's has noticeably increased - so has petrol.
We have started to shop at Morrisons, Sainsburys and Co-op. We nip in for essentials and buy what ever BOGOF's or offers they have.

i found them to cost more, just silly things like the coke and bread and eggs. the 6 value eggs where 79p i can get 10 eggs of £1.00 outta netto, the cheapest bleach is 59p i can get it for 39p in savers
i will be debt free, i will
  • Great to see others following my way - thought I was the only one!

Long gave up on Tesc0 - they did a great job in overseeing the closure of so many small/independant retailers in my locality.

As soon as the competition was wiped out, they whacked up their prices.

A lot of items I used to buy have gone up between 25%-60%. You notice that in a weekly shop.

Last summer, I switched alleigence to Asda and Morrisons.

Only go to Tesco to screw them over when exploiting some of their T&Cs.

They started to believe their own hype!!!

Definately been trying to keep out of Tesco since the beginning of this year. The prices have gone up a lot in recent months. I do all my shopping at Aldi now. I dare not even go into Tesco for one item as i always end up spending about £20.00 a time. I get drawn into the offers too easily. Anyway i have saved about £100 this year alone by not stepping foot into Mr T's shop.

Does anyone think that Tesco is expensive now ? or is it just me.
i have found that if I shop there it costs alot more than say Morrisons or Asda and I dont find their offers as good, not many BOGOFs anymore, yet it still seems as busy in there as ever, perhaps its just the products I buy are never on offer there , many items seem to have gone up rapidly compared to other stores.

Have thought this for ages tbh.
