I caled into Morrisons and was pleasantly surprised by the cost of my shopping. Also I have found Morrisons bread is often fresher.

Tesco will charge more in one store for fuel than the other in the same town, this, in my opinion says all you need to about Tesco.

They wil RIP you off if they can.....

Funnily eough, I have just came in from Tescos (none of those sunday trading hours in scotland) and I was very disappointed. I was planning of making chicken enchildas for dinner but the prices were too expensve - the wrap kit thing is usually 99p in Asda - similar one £2.69 in tescos, Peppers were £1.69 and all the chicken was expensive and even the refried beans were £1.49!! Was going to end up costing the best part of £10 for one meal!

However a quick scout at there reduced section means we are having lamb rogan josh (68p) and chicken madras (68p) instead.
  • thanks for your comments and opinions, I had to shop at tesco yesterday boo hoo as my car had broken down and had to get a lift of mate that was going there, I noticed the increase in the cola, why is their crusty in store baked bread like bullets, every french stick ROCK HARD ( supposed to be fresh baked ) my a**e, shopping cost more than ever, their cheese ,too dear, meat tough , hardly any choice in sliced bread !!!!!! why is it so busy in there I will never know, perhaps we have been brainwashed for too long!!!
  • I remember reading a similar post to this sometime last year, re. Tesco prices and lo and behold it was all a build up for a promotion about reducing prices -the usual con, to put them up to take them down again, and advertise it, as someone else just said to make people believe they're cheap.

I reckon 28 days time, or from whenver this last lot of increases started there'll be a big offer on!

Wish there was an Asda near us!

even in each tesco store the prices can vary and the offers...

the latest one today i saw was the Kellogs Crunchy nut. In the 1st store I went to it was £2.58 a packet or 2 for £2.50
but in the 2nd tescos I went to it was 2 for £4.00

Unfortunately this is incorrect. Having worked for them for 17 years I can say this. The only variances in prices is between the Express convenience sites and the main superstores. When there is a difference, it is due to someone not putting the updated price on the shelf.

    Thanks

Unfortunately food inflation causes increases in prices. Also promotions tend to last for 4 weeks. Lower price longer term promotions last for 12 weeks. There are various reasons. Not neccassarily a con.

    Hi

I agree with the basic cost of products going up, I like the Tesco own brand low fat yogurts which 6 weeks ago cost 14p - bargain!

But a week later they went up to 16p each then to 18p and just before Christmas rose to 22p each. How can such a rise be justified over a short period of time?

My dad like the Artic Rolls and at £1.48 for 2 they were very reasonable, but yet again before Christmas they increased to over £2 for the same product, amazingly I now buy them from Sainsburys for £1.44 for 2!

Who would have thought Sainsburys would be cheaper than Tesco on some items?

have recently been shopping at Morissons - their offers seem much better than Mr T - and MrT is just raising prices like nonsense - my favourite handwash has just gone up from £1.99 to £2.05, and food prices are rising like mad - just see the above posts - I used to do all my shopping at Mr T, especially with the H&B coupons, but now even those are rubbish - have just bought a panasonic breadmaker which has reduced my visits to the supermarket anyway lol
  • I do go to Tesco's quite often as its nearer and for a quick in and out to get bread. or milk

but for my weekly shopping > £50 i tend to go to Morrisons which is three times as far, but a lot lot lot cheaper.

HOWEVER i have begun to notice something.
When i first began to shop at morrisons (many years ago) my **multisave** at the bottom of the reciept was usually around £15 - £25 as i had that many BOGOF. The last couple of visits have just shown a **Multisave** of a couple of quid.

they say and advertise lots of BOGOF, but im thinking its becoming more and more on stuff that you done need or want and thts why my multisave is so low.
where as before you would get lots of BOGOFs on bread, eggs, coca cola, nappies, canned foods - mushy peas, baked beans, spaghetti etc and even milk!

Morrisons best be careful - it was a 'northern' shop to begin with, and us northerners love a good bargain - if they detract from what they have become accustomed to (as explained in the Alan Hansen Morrisons Advert) they will lose their loyal customers
  • I've always found Tescos expensive. Generally I tend to shop at Asda ...always starting with the nearly out of date stuff.
Though I do check the net first for the best supermarket offers, and sometimes visit Asda/ALDI & Morrisons one after another, just to stock up when the offers are worth.it.
