I agree, and they're doing more of that changing the packaging and putting the price up rubbish that they think fools us into thinking we're getting something superior.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)
Debt free success date: 14.8.2006 :j0 -

Long gave up on Tesc0 - they did a great job in overseeing the closure of so many small/independant retailers in my locality.
Last summer, I switched alleigence to Asda and Morrisons.
Whilst you're spot on about Tesco, Wal-Mart have done exactly the same in the US so I don't see how switching to Asda helps is a better moral choice.
I stopped shopping at Tesco a couple of years ago when I read about how they operate. I have three of them within ten minutes walk but never go in them on principle.
On the very rare occasion when I've gone in there when in a pinch (they're almost on my doorstep, everything else is a lot further away I can't see what the fuss is over their prices and the meat, fruit and veg doesn't look too clever.0 -
I keep an eye on the prices on the mysupermarket website and I think prices are going up across all stores but if the prices rise you can guarantee Tesco will be the first to charge more. Also Tesco own brand prices seem to yo-yo alot with large % increases which may drop down again. Other supermarkets don't seem to have such fluctuations prices on their own brands and I believe supermarkets have contracts locking suppliers into supplying their goods at a constant price. I can only assume Tesco think no one will notice and catch people out on basics when they don't keep an eye on things.
50% of our weekly shop comes from Lidl now.0 -

Well I dont shop in the USA, and I am most certainly am not on any 'moral crusade' - just concerned about people I know whose livelyhoods were lost recently in my locality.
My point about Asda is that in the UK, they havent whacked up prices in excess to the extent of Tescos (for now
) 0 -
Also - Tesco's own brand products have seriously gone down in quality & taste etc.
When you've eaten a certain type of bread for so many years, and the price has gone up 40% - and it starts to taste 'yuck' - you know that you are being taken for a ride.
Best thing we ever did was give 'Mr Tesco' the 2 finger salute and go elsewhere.0 -
Tesco's is well expensive
Asda and Morrisons are both much cheaper
I also find Sainburys to be better value than Tesco (same price for own brand stuff and better quality)
Tesco's is good for non food stuff.................. and thats it
if your after a weekly shop better going elsewhere....if your afters cd's etc Tesco's is pretty good0 -
ive noticed for my shopping that it has went up by quite a bit. i usually get the same things every 2 weeks and it used to come to around £110 but is more nearer £130 now. think i might shop around0

I agree that the prices do seem to have gone up. After shopping with Tesco for a good 7 years I have now changed my ways completely.
I buy meat from the butchers - we dont have a local one unfortunately so its in the next town. I buy enough for a month and the quality and price is far better than the supermarkets.
I then buy eggs, fruit and veg from the local farm- admittedly if you go at the wrong time of the week then some of the produce isnt at its best but that just means I buy something different for a change! The majority is again of higher quality, cheaper and lasts longer.
I then get milk/bread/cheese from either the local co-op or if Im needing more then I go to whichever supermarket I may be passing.
So far I am under budget and my cupboards are full. We havent gone without anything and infact we are probably not wasting as much as we must have been before.0 -
I have put my clubcard away This Yeasr and dont miss it, the prices definatley have soared , i missed that thrill of checking my points ,but really at the end of the day my cupboards are full but my purse /bank was empty and i was hoarding helping to make Mr T Wealthy in the process. Im going to Asda it and Corner shop it instead ........ HTHDon't sweat the small stuff, Its all small stuff.0
