tesco, opinions on prices

ASDA gets my vote too and their fresh fruit and veg are much better that T's, although they have improved in that area over past year. I do use Tesco and S'Burys, but would agree they are generally more expensive for a weekly shop. Think if I were more organised, I could probably take advantage of Tesco's specials.

Morrisons is cheaper for me - I've noticed that the flyers this week are much better for Morrisons than tesco. Some of it is stuff i don't buy (weight watchers ready meals less than half price) but the prices and offers are better than tesco's.

I have shopped at Tesco for years but am getting a bit wary of continuous price increases. My husband treats himself to 1/2 bottle of Tesco vodka weekly but just before Xmas noticed the price had gone up from £3.60 to £3.99 and the diet coke from 37p to 44p. He asked a shop assistant why and she replied "its for xmas," They reduce the price on leading lines for Xmas and load the shortfall onto other lines hoping the customer wont notice.

I use the my supermarket site and Tesco is always the cheapest for the particular things that I buy. I buy very few convenience foods and after some duff delivery items I rarely buy fruit and veg. I live on my own and don't drive so a home delivery every 3 weeks works out very economical for me.

Tesco's is fa from cheap, it just spends a fortune on adverts telling folks it is.

Asda is the cheapest of all the 'big supermarkets imho - although their quality is variable for meat/fruit, etc.

Morrisons is okay - still not cheaper than Asda but has lots of bogofs and the sort which may be cheaper for those who wants 3 of something but still bumps the shopping bill up regardless.

I tend to rotate round the stores doing my main shop in Tesco one week, Asda the next, Morry's the next and using Lidl and Aldi to supplement. I never buy condiments, oil, spices etc from the main stores because Lidl and Aldi beat them hands down on prices for these and by ridiculous amounts of money. Our meals are planned around the BOGOF and special offers and if there is an offer on something we like I buy several and freeeze or store the surplus. Since finding the OS thread on here my shopping bills have plummeted and I am cooking much more from scratch.

I used to go to Tesco every week and have done so for the past five years. I think that it is definately more expensive. I have been going to Sainsburys for the past four weeks and have found it quite a lot cheaper. For the first time also, I have been popping in Lidl and Aldi as well.

I shop around & find asda consistently cheaper.
My friends OH is tesco management so she gets vouchers & discount instore & she says with that asda is still cheaper for most of her shopping.

I now shop at Lidls/Aldi first and use Asda to top up. Tesco keeps people shopping there with their points system but I don't buy enough groceries to make it worth my while. I don't have a Tesco card so that frees me to shop anywhere including Farmfoods, Iceland and Aldi when I feel I'm spending too much.

even in each tesco store the prices can vary and the offers...

the latest one today i saw was the Kellogs Crunchy nut. In the 1st store I went to it was £2.58 a packet or 2 for £2.50
but in the 2nd tescos I went to it was 2 for £4.00
