Car accident -who's fault?

Options
The other guy was parked at double yellow lines and went into a take away shop, i thought I could get through between his car and other cars and I scraped my rear side and his car aswell.

We exchanged details.

Did the "parked" car hit you? No.
    It is your fault.

Of course it's your fault. You hit a parked car. How much simpler does it get?
  • I hit the parked car, but even though the parked car is on double yellow lines.

You hit an immobile object. What you should have done was wait until there was enough room to proceed. It is 100% your fault.

The highlighted bit is the important bit, the rest is irrelevant. It's YOUR fault end of story.

If your positions had been reversed and he had hit your parked car and told you it was your fault. What would you have said?

Sorry I meant to quote you but I thanked you instead. You are totaly at fault - even if he was illegaly parked you were the one driving.

  • It is up to the insurers of the involved parties to decide whose fault it is, so this is rather pointless thread. Though I would expect the outcome to be that it was the fault of the OP.

    Are you being serious?

Of course it was 100% your fault, you were driving a moving car ( badly ) the other car wasn't even moving.

Just tell your insurance company, get your car sorted and move on.

    Why is everyone so sure?

My partner reversed off our drive, she was watching our cat so she didn't hit it.

She bumped into the neighbours car who was parked opposite our drive.

It went through insurance and the neighbour who's car was empty and parked at the time was found at fault.
