sometimes you have to insert the ip details into the settings manually.
get the ip details off the router setup page.
enter the ip details manually and it should work. after that you can change it to automatic (if you wish) and it works as per normal.

dont ask me how/why it does that, but ive had to do it a few times in the last five yrs on different PCs. just wierd.

    worth trying.
    Get some gorm.

Is the Network adaptor enabled in System, Hardware, Device Manager, Network Adaptor, Ethernet adaptor, Properties.

Under network adaptor it shows 1394 Net Adapter> when I click on this is shows this device is working properly but it shows no ethernet adaptor?

That is your Firewire port. Until you can see your Ethernet adaptor under Network Adaptors in device manager it won't work. I have three adaptors displayed, Ethernet, Firewire and Bluetooth

I can alter the IP address manually...what about the DNS server as this is only ticked on my router details as ' obtain automatically from ISP?

Did you install all the drivers for your mother board?

Ah...this leads me back to my original question yeaterday....I reformatted, added operating system. Then went to install drivers and utilites and it only installed direct X off the disk. Now I thought it should install more.

Not sure what to do if it didnt install automatically. I presume it would get complicated to have to download all drivers and install from there. I wouldnt even know what my system had to download.

The motherboard drivers should be on your driver CD (probably VIA chipset etc.). You might have to look on the VD using windows explorer to see what's on the disc.

I just knew it was a bad idea to re-format your machine!

The same as you look at the contents of any other CD. In Windoze Explore, navigate to the drive letter of your CD drive and expand the view.
