As for washing them, I do think you're asking for trouble by machine-washing any bra (even if it says you can on the label).
This is not true,i have been to a factory who manufactures m&s bras and swimwear and the wires are in two casings of fabric and shouldnt cause any damage to machines, they also go through lots of testing and wearer tests before being sold, the info on a label is there for a reason, people thing handwashing is gentler but it isnt as you cannot judge the temperatures and they are handled more,if you have followed all these instructions on a label and then there is a problem then there must be a fault. That said a lot of other companies underwear may not go through the same tests etc.0 -
I think you take a risk everytime you machine wash any bra. Even if it says it on the label that you can.
They probably put 'machine washable' on majority of bras because if they didnt nobody would bother to buy them to go through the agro of handwashing them. 9 times out of 10 your bra will be fine, other times it wont be.
As for wires and the drum, it does happen where they poke through after being washed and spun, the material gets worn away ect. Also it can ruin the fabric of the bra and it doesnt have the best effect.
Seeing as 99.9% of the population dont really care about their size or how their boobs look in a bra, whos gunna care about how its washed?0 -
M&S are fine if you take something back you don't like. But the minute something's faulty, they are a nightmare.0

You're right Sarah take a look at the reply via e-mail I got from M & S:
'With regards to your e-mail, you would actually have to take this matter up with the store you purchased the items from as this would be at their digression.'
Kind Regards
Marks & Spencer Customer Services
Registered office: Waterside House, 35 North Wharf Road, London, W2 1 NW.
Not only are they passing the buck but the guy's grammar is way off! It should be discretion not digression! No wonder M & S have gone downhill. It looks as if I have to take the bras back to customer services for a good old fashioned sniffing......0 -
I thought this thread would be finished once I'd sent the bras off as I expected a no quibble refund. How wrong am I! First I had e-mailed M & S no joy, then sent the bras to the Cheshire office. So I'm waiting for a reply, took about two weeks. They tell me that they only deal with online purchases not in store purchases, they had enclosed the bras with their letter and said go to your store for a refund.
So, in the store I go. The Customer Services lady told me that the bras need to be stretched into shape after washing!! She proceeded to pull and tug until they were in a reasonable shape but I said there is a fault, which she denied! Apparently I have worn the bras and she cannot refund even though I pointed out I followed the wash code.
Nowhere on the wash label or even their website does it say you have to pull, tug and stretch the bras to get their shape back after washing!! This CS woman said it is known that you have to reshape padded bras even the under-wired ones after every wash!
I don't think so! Absolutely unbelievable. So my next question to you ladies is which address should I write to as I noticed their Baker Street head office is no longer and there are a couple of addresses I came across on the net as they have appeared to have moved.
I won't let this drop on principle and just want others to know not to buy padded bras in M & S unless you want to spend 10 minutes pulling material into shape that frankly can't do the bras any good whatsoever.
Ok rant over. :mad:0 -
Can I ask which bra you are referring to? After reading your post I noticed mine have done that too!
They aren't the cotton t-shirt ones are they?
maybe we could join forces together?? I totally support you - hope you get your money back! Just unsure as to what you should do though... x0 -
Yes Babybimbles! This is the one:

They are trying to tell me the fault lies with me not stretching the bras after washing and it cannot possibly be a fault on their side!
Just to add I wonder how many people have bought that particular bra (underwired or not), and have tried to get a refund.0 -
m & s is unfortunately disappearing up its own **se. yes they have a great new look but it is foor where the profit is hence more food halls popping up everywhere. i do tend to buy my bras there as they have started doing the larger sizes and i dont live near a debenhams anymore but the quality is poor. ive seen many staff sniff underwear and ive been refused a refund because it had been worn. not by me it hadn't ! if that is the policy they are going to go by then best they dont let anyone try on underwear, especially in the summer when 'the twins' get a bit warm!A happy wife, and mum to 2 lovely little boys :j0

Never had problems with bra wires when washing them in the washing machine, however I'm thinking of starting to handwash them all, as I find that a lot of them seem to shrink in the washing machine, no matter what it says on the label! (Non padded bras anyway).0
