Can I get refund on M & S bras?

Options
I purchased 2 padded bras before Christmas and the wash label said to wash at 40 degrees. I was being very cautious and washed them on a cold wash (20 degrees) in the machine and now they are wrinkly and puckered. I don't have the receipt (had a clear out and threw it by mistake). Would M & S allow me to exchange or have vouchers instead?

i believe they should, as the bras will have the m&s label. But how much will depend on if they were reduced in the sale or not.

did you pay by debit/credit card? take in teh statement showing the purchase
  • As long as your claim is that they are faulty they should refund you cash even without a reciept. might be worth going when the customer service desk is quiet as it can be mad busy this time of year.

I was behind someone returning a bikini once. She said the same - that it had gone wrinkly and had lost it's stretch. The assistant told her that straight away, she could see that she had washed it at too low a temperature. The lady said that she's washed it at 30 degrees. The assistant was a bit sharp, I think, and said that to maintain the elasticity it should have been washed at 40 degrees, if it needed washing at 30 degrees, they would have put that on the label!

The woman was embarassed and several of us rounded on the assistant and agreed that you wouldn't think that too low a wash, rather than too high would have affected it. After all, if they are having a lot of customers returning stuff with the same problem, they should make sure that people are aware that it's important that they specifically wash at that temp.
  • I took a bra back last year as it did not fit properly. It was withing 90 days of purchase, so I was entitled to refund.

The woman in M and S smelt the bra (she sniffed it!!! - weirdo!) and told me it had been worn(it hadnt!)

She gave me a refund, but I had the receipt!

I think you can use the "not fit for purpose" clause to return your bras ,but I dont think you will get the price you paid for them , just the last price on the till . I am very cautious when I wash underwear , and would have done the extra low wash, like you , so it seems really weird that the fabric is not up to it. Could be a familliar problem to SA .

I've returned a "wrinkly" bra to m&s before. I got a refund without a receipt.

SA complained it had been machine washed and I drew her attention to the machine washable label! She didn't like that and said I should expect it to not wash well if I used a machine. I didn't expect a crease down the front of the cup that showed through clothing.

Not fit for purpose was the phrase I used.
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!

Just a thought -would the wrinkles disappear if you ironed the bras?
    Born to shop;)
  • I have worked at M & S Refund desk, we had to check all underwear, incl. gussets.
