Are you sure this was Roaccutane? Roaccutane can't be prescribed by a GP and is only available through a hospital pharmacy with a consultant dermatologist's prescription. She should insist on a referral to a dermatologist after she's had the baby. Roaccutane worked for me and I'd recommend it. It's certainly a no-no if she's pregnant though (can cause serious foetal abnormalities) and probably for a while after she's had the baby as there is a bit of a risk of depression with it and I think it wouldn't be a good idea to take in the post natal period.
Unfortunately, people with acne often find it gets worse during pregancy (all those bloomin' hormones!). I'd stick to mild soap etc., and get a dermatology appointment when the baby is born

The licence for Roaccutane changed recently and it can now be prescribed by a GP under the supervision of a consultant dermatologist, and can be dispensed by community pharmacies. It must not be used by pregnant women under any circumstances, and is also contraindicated in breastfeeding women. Roaccutane is not the nicest drug to take (I know, I was on it), but it is very effective.

    Thanks,
I know she will have to wait a good while before she is perscribed it,If she is ever perscribed it,Her skin is very servere and really dose look awful, just whish it would calm down a little, bought her the pregnancy care vitamins and vitamin juice,
    Glad it worked for you,
Going to speak to her GP there must be something safe that he could perscribe thats safe, x
  • What about Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish? OH suffered from bad acne and started using this - skin seemed to get worse for the first few days (all the pores getting cleaned out) then it started to clear up. Obviously all skin probs are different, but worth a bash. They also do a tea-tree spot on - dab it on at night and it helps to zap blemmishes etc.
Perhaps her being pregnant may help her skin....

Can I suggest cutting out the soap and chemicals in case its an allergic reaction. I have v sensitive skin and things have only improved since I stoppped using chemicals. Instead try mixing Honey with a little bit of oil - (Avocado is really good, not as greasy as Olive oil available in sainsburys & Tesco in the cooking oils section). Put it on and leave for as long as you can begfore rinsing off with warm water.
  • Thank You to owtfornowt we have tried Liz Earle cleanse and polish, because I have used it for years and just love the stuff it helped my son but has not helped dd at all,Perhaps her being pregnant may help her skin.... I do hope so,

dr_dig thanks going to try this on her face this week because i know the products cannot harm her in any way,

I have booked her in with another GP for them to have a look at her skin Thankx again to you all. x

i have had acne since i was 13 and im about to turn 36 next week, and i have tried just about every cream and lotion and antibiotic going the docs dont seem as bothered as i am so i cant get a referal to a specailist.
i do go on the sunbed:eek: and my skin clears up lovely,so thats why i think i might get a good result with the beauty skin lamp.
i am considering buying one or the other but they are both pretty expensive wanted an unbiased review before i decide
    many thanks

Hi - I had acne from the age of approx 23 til late thirties. Like you I found the sunbed helped but felt guilty about the damage it was probably doing as well.

I bought one of the "beautyskin" lamps and found that it had the same effect as sunbeds but without the tan (and presumably without the damage too). In other words it definitely helped! It didn't entirely cure it but it made enough of a difference to make me glad I bought it. You may be able to get a used on from ebay to save a few pennies.

I'd also recommend drinking loads and loads of water as this makes a HUGE difference to my skin condition, along with not using any cleaners or washes that are too strong as they seem to cause my skin to get "stressed" and cause more breakouts.

    Hope this helps!

My son had tried everything but eventually we paid privately for N lite laser treatment in a hospital in the north of England and it cost about £150 per treatment, took 2/3 treatments but it did clear it up. Their success rate is good and it is not a sunbed type treatment which harms the epidermis.

thanks i have had the n lite treatment about 5 years ago in preparation for my wedding day and yes it did work,(only one spot on the dayand that could be covered with makeup)but i could only afford to have my face treated £150 for the lower half of the face, i suffer with it on my back and arms and torso.so i just had the one treatment which did the trick for my wedding day (just wanted to have clear skin for the photos)
