Acne

If you or someone in your family uses acne products, they may not be aware of a money saving version.

There is an equivalent to Oxy10 (30ml lotion) which is cheaper. It is PanOxyl gel, a 40g tube is around £2.80. They both have the same (Benzoyl Peroxide) active ingredient, so why pay more than you have to?

Edited on 18/05/05 because I've got accurate prices for you to compare the savings.

Oxy 10 lotion (30ml) = £4.99

Panoxyl 10 gel (40g) = £2.98

I would like to add that by far the best way to help treat acne is via the GP...if you can bring your self to go about it. I am well over 18 and whilst it costs me the prescrition charge the medication is the best you can get. It's taken me 3 differnt visits over the past year and I am now nearly acne free, no more scarring and my skin is the best condition it's been in years. The peroxide you are talking about was ok for me in the short term but it really dried my skin out.

I currently have a topical lotion that its not too harse and doing a brill job..h

I haven't used this personally yet but I have heard of people raving about it. It's a cream/gel, not sure which, called Freederm which is available without prescription from pharmacists. Don't know the price but it's meant to be really good. Hope this helps.

It's clear from the latest research that all these products are effective so for moneysavers the choice (if you can't get them on prescription or the price is cheaper than the prescription charge) appears to be

    Hey,

I've suffered quite badly from spots and I guess acne in the last few years, but after a 4 month course of anti-biotics from my doctor the bulk of them started to disappear. However, I'm left with the regular occurence of some around by my hairline, and around my chin... Can anyone recommend any creams or anything that would help to get rid of them? Also, are own brand (Tesco, Sainsburys etc) cleansers and gels as good as Clearasil, and Clean & Clear brands for example? Hope someone can help!

Failing that, do you think it would be worth trying to cover them up? My housemate at university last year used to use a spot concealer stick, but you could always tell he was wearing it, so I think i'd feel a bit uncomfortable unless it was really well concealed... Any ideas?

Again, hope someone can help! :)

I made my own equivalent of a blemish stick by mixing some tea tree essential oil with witch hazel. Its lots cheaper than the ready bought stuff and seems to work well. I just keep a little bit of it mixed in a bottle and apply it with a cotton bud. Remember to shake it well before you use it though because it does seperate.

    Hi,
I have always suffered from Acne and still get the odd spot not ( Im 38) . As I remember it there are cheaper creams that oxy 5 /oxy 10 that have the same active ingredient, comes in a blue tube but forgot the name.
What worked for me was sunbeds. I went to Tenerife for 2 weeks and came back spot free then figured a sunbed would do the same trick and it did. Might be worth a try.

On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

Just be careful that you don't add skin cancer to your skin health worries too.;)

If you are thinking of buying a product like Oxy5 lotion, the same active ingredient (Benzoyl Peroxide) is in PanOxyl Gel...........it's a bigger tube and a cheaper price too. Ask at any chemist shop.

See the thread I've just bumped up for you.
