Hi
I agree with most of the comments here - female presenter was surplus to requirements, maybe she should be a 'roving reporter' instead. (Without meaning to be personal she also needs a little more wardrobe allowance - her clothes were distracting!!)
Martin does need to slow his style down, but I understand that there is a lot of info to get out!!
Drainpipe didn't work well, why not have a board similar to Top Gear (but obviously different!) with just end results showing?
The audience looked slightly awkward, are they all really needed?
Maybe just a few people who could take part in the challenges?
I agree with this post - Martin, you are fantastic and obviously very passionate about money saving, but I do find you too bouncy, and it can be a little irritating to watch (constructive criticism). The female presenter, her blouse was far too tight and my OH spent the whole programme commenting on the blouse.
Please can we have some new ideas as well, to keep us older MSE's interested, my OH said I could have presented the show myself as I was commenting on the whole show, my OH was impressed with my knowledge - that's good, maybe he won't think I am wasting my time on the computer now!

I just know I'm going to get shot down for this
, but I think Martin's climbing wall was a visual metaphor for his explanation of the MEAFs.
There have been a number of studies done over the years about the best ways to learn & retain more information and memory. The more senses you involve in learning something, the more likely you are to remember it later on.
One of the best memory techniques is to associate an image of/related to what you're trying to remember. So, perhaps Martin going up and down a climbing wall was the visual part of his MEAF explanation to help viewers remember it better?
Also, TV is a visual medium, so words aren't enough on their own - imagine your favourite programme with the sound only. Would you enjoy it as much as when the pictures are there?
Well, that's my theory, anyway. Perhaps Martin would like to comment on it next time he's on this board?
I enjoyed the show - perhaps he could supplement the drainpipe thing with a flipchart on which he writes down each of the points he mentions to his guests, then uses the drainpipe indicator to show the final amount? The guests could then be given a copy of the flipchart page where Martin's written the points out for them?

I loved it. Martin was just his usual enthusiastic self.:j Some of the audience members did look a little uncomfortable in the background (but I was probably more aware of them as I kept looking at them to see if I could recognise anybody from MSE!!)
I especially loved the OS tip bit with Liz! :T She did seem really natural and relaxed. My OH still refuses to convert to soapnuts though! :rolleyes:0 -
Hi Everyone, this is my first post.
First of all, I didn't know much about Martin apart from his guest apperences on GMTV and thought he was great on that.
So I checked out the new show on Five and while I agree that while he was speaking too fast, at least he admitted that he made some errors (who wouldn't on the first show on a major tv channel!) it was good.
It's clear Martin has a passion for saving money and when you have all that information and only have 22.5 mins to do it all in, it's not surprising.
As for the female presenter, her name's Ruth Liptrot and you can normally see her on Five News doing the slightly bizarre stories which normally involve elderly people and animals. She's great at turning dull features stories into something worth watching between all the depressing news.
Please give her a chance as I'm sure she'll make great tv over the next 9 weeks.
