easy a permanent way to get round this, get the old paint off, scraper of nitromors, clean the area with a preparation solution and give a few hours to dry.
get a small tin of ronseal damp seal and paint the affected area plus a few inches arount to make sure and after 24 hours repaint the area the original colour.
this was one of the first jobs i did when we moved into our new home (about 7 years ago) and we have not seen mould since.
we bought our first place 6 months ago so we were new to the game. we'll def be sealing walls when we get our next place!! unfortunately we lined the walls with lining paper then painted so will have to remove it all before we can seal and then repaint to get rid of the mould! tempted to try the detol mould and mildew remover first but dont think the lining paper will like it....0 -
Got 2 bottles of that dettol spray, will give it a try later today. In Asda for £1.97 each. :eek:I hate migraines.0

At the end of my tether with the mould today, the bathroom is an ensuite and I have flu so am lying in bed and can see the light reflecting off the bathroom wall, the wall looks soaked, went in and wiped with my hand and confirm it is damp from top to bottom, I have not had a shower/bath yet and the window has been wide open for an hour and a half. Text the BF and reminded him to keep on at the landlord (as it is his relative I am not allowed to pester him  ) a decent extractor fan would cost £30 ish and my boyfriend or his relative could install it as they are both very well qualified builders/roofers and if they couldn't they definitely could get someone they know to do it for 'mates rates'.
I am just baffled why it hasn't been fixed by now (6 months) as after we leave (mould central) the next tenants will just say the exactly the same thing and in the end the walls will be damaged by all the mould anyway for a problem that could be easily fixed and fairly cheaply too! Sorry rant over!0 -
Got 1 of those electric fans in our bathroom and it hasn't really done much to stop the mould.I hate migraines.0

We had a bad condensation problem in a rented flat many years ago. Used the green bottle stuff almost weekly on painted walls, skirting, windowsills, bathroom.
A fan automatically came on when humidity was high - it was on 20 hours a day. We had saucepan lids on when cooking with windows open, heating on low - nothing made it better. Windows would be running even if we were away for couple of days or in summer.
We put it down to bad building design. (We've moved)
Make sure you don't breathe spray in & well ventilate room0 -
I've got specs of mould all over the back bedroom ceiling, they have just started to appear over the last week or so. Will try that green-bottle Dettol stuff.0

Tested a small area yesterday with the dettol spray, seems pretty good but be careful as it has a very strong smell of bleach, just need to see how long it lasts.I hate migraines.0

Well I bought some today :j Tried it on the bathroom titles first and it was amazing. :T Then I tired it on my painted walls and.... nothing
 Maybe I didn't leave it long enough? I didn't dare leave it more than about 2 min. Or maybe I have the "wrong" kind of mould? No idea. Might try again tomorrow for a bit longer if I'm feeling brave. What do you guys do after spraying it on and waiting? I just wiped it with a damp cloth. It really had no affect at all.

I leave it for a good 5 minutes or so then scrub off with a cloth, always seems to do the trick...0
