I HATE the diving in the Lake District especially Wastwater. As the daughter of a BSAC instructor (retired now) I was dragged around the Lakes every weekend while he did his thing training the newbies and I have particular bad memories of a tragedy involving a group of divers and the bends (not with us) at Wastwater.
Probably should add I don't dive any more.0 -

I'm sorry to hear that - But must say your father has (had) good tasteThe Summer Holiday of a Lifetime0 -
I agree, i forgot to add the ridiculous public transport, over priced attractions/food and general dislike from the Scottish of the English.
You must be one of those lovely englishmen then! Fortunately most of the ones I've met up here in this godforsaken hellhole are not as bigoted as you! Oops I've taken a leaf out of Gordon Browns book and used the B word, it must be a scottish thing!0 -

If you get good weather, the west coast of Scotland has without a doubt some of the most stunning scenery certainly in UK, arguably Europe.
The lochs are magnificent bodies of water with towering mountains, not the small ponds and hills you get in the so-called lake district of England
As Monty Hall said in his last series when he was in Applecross on North West highlands, 'I have visited many many places around the world, but this area is one of the most beautiful'. He is English by the way
My wife is English and we live up in Scotland, she has never had any problems in the 12 years she has been here.0 -
I've been called a lot worse.... (by you actually in our late night chats
)
But, one thing is true - Scotland is grim. The people over the years have spent so long hating everything English that they have let their cities fall into absolute disrepair, have one of the highest poverty rates on the British Isles, Highest drink/death rate and highest drug rate, lowest education rate and its always freezing. Ok I admit, there is the odd nice mountain and a bit of history but Scotland imo ranks as one of the worst countries on the planet.
Just as well I think you're funny the rest of the time Mr Lahey, otherwise I'd be giving you a slap right now;)
Considering England has a city such as Birmingham, it's a bit rich saying Glasgow and Edinburgh are grim:rotfl:0 -

I can second that, never encountered any animosity from the Scottish when visiting. We live quite close to the border, but not close enough to give me a scottish lilt to my accent. I've got fond memories of holidays in Scotland as a child and my kids love it when we go for a day trip, so much so that this year we are spending our summer holidays there. I'm really looking forward to experiencing the Scottish hospitality again, which I've also always found welcoming.0 -
