One thing that pops up sometimes with an offer message, is the phrase "collected this from another freecycler but never used it." Of course there could be all sorts of reasons for it, but in general why go to the trouble of collecting something, for it just to sit in a cupboard?

Either because the collector thought he would have a use and doesn't or because the item was collected as part of a job lot and not all the stuff was needed.

An example of mine is when I collected a bath and a corner sink from a doner. I told him that I could use the bath but not the sink and offered to just take the bath or both. He preferred me to take both, so I re offered the sink.:D

Stick the word 'car' in your spam filter and enjoy.

The woman I collected the books off also said that she has had plenty of text books from her uni course to offer. She said that usually she is inundated with offers to collect, but this last time she specified that theywere unsuitable for resale on Amazon or ebay due to the number of handwritten notes in them, She only got 2 (genuine) responses.

Maybe that is the way to go with books etc :D

ps. Had no luck with anyone offering me an LS Lowrie. Ah well, maybe if I specify that I will accept a Constable (originals onlyof course!!) I will get a better response :rotfl:

If you look at your post you said a new painting. The Lowries I have to give away are all old and secondhand, and full of depressing Northern town scenes.
  • I've had a breadmaker and some shoes for my son that were offered, we gave our piano as we needed the space.
I've never had any problems with freecycle - I'm not expecting it to be full of saints.
I guess the thing is if you need something, say a carseat, and you'd be getting one why not ask first. People tend to keep hold of things and then see the posts and think ok, I've got that.
Not sure why everyone has such a stress over it - if someone seems greedy, delete the post, forget about it and move on with your life LOL
It's not the end of the world.
I get more annoyed at the ammount of fake charity bags through my door !

We got a car from freecycle!! We also emptied MIL house using freecycle after she passed away. We recently bought a new suite, and offered our old one for the day the new one was being delivered. The old suite was only 2 years old but was too big and was still in good condition. The e-mails we received ranged from "can u deliver"
" can u clean it for me" "can I come and have a look at it before I decide" plus the usual sob stories about having 10 kids and unemployed, house broken in to and they stole their couch. After someone picked it up we put on a taken message and someone sent back "Thanks for nothing" Wot a cheek!

My all time favourite response from an offer we put out for 2 sofas, both in excellent condition - matching - one 2 seater and one 3 seater was...

Can I bring my mother round to view it as she is very fussy.

    Nothing else, just that...

They/it went to a family with 2 young boys who wanted them/it for their playroom.
