Complain to Tesco or Trading Standards?
OH bought a Friends Trivia game in Tescos yesterday as it was on the shelf reduced to £2.50. He was charged £5.97. When he complained they said that as the price ticket on the shelf said reduced from £5 to £2.50 and it had a different bar code they would not honour the price reduction. He then said how would he know it's a different bar code and that no where on the shelf did it say £5.97. They then said he could have it for £2.50 but he asked for double the difference per their policy. They refused and he refunded the item as he was so peed off.
However he has a photo of the item on the shelf showing £2.50:T
So who does he complain to? Tesco HQ or Trading Standards. Will TS be interested?
If you wish to see the picture PM me.

Dont know if he will have much of a case considering he refunded the item... If he had held on to it then maybe it would have been better.0

But they committed the offence of misleading with the display of their price and he has the receipts showing the cost and the shelf price.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

There is another thread somewhere about a shops 'invitation to buy'. They don't have to sell it to you. And you ended up not buying it anyway.
Probably best to put it down to experience.0 -
Technically tesco have committed a criminal offence of giving a misleading price indication under the consumer protection act 1987.
Its a relatively minor offence that you describe and Trading Standards will not really be interested.
In terms of civil law they do not have to sell it at the price display (Its called an invitation to treat as already pointed out)
The code of practice on misleading price indications advise that that if an item is mispriced then they do not sell it at all and withdraw all items for sale and put the correct price on.
Just chill out and have a cup of tea is your best bet0 -
Take it up with Tesco Head Office...double the difference still applies. It is a criminal offence to give misleading price indications, and Tesco knows it. You can also give Trading Standards a call. Your friend would have been in a strong position if he'd kept the item and receipt showing that he'd been overcharged, but there is still a chance that Tesco will rectify the issue. There is no reason why you can't contact both Tesco and TS about this. The store was wrong not to honour the overcharge policy, as the customer was overcharged (customers are not expected to read barcodes). If the SEL said Friends Trivia Game reduced to £2.50, and that is what was purchased, then your friend should have been charged £2.50.In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

I work in trading standards in london and I can tell you that a £2.50 misleading price indication wont get very far. By all means complain but you will be getting more stressed out for nothing extra.
You will at best get a gesture of goodwill voucher for between £5 and £10 if you complain to Trading Standards and Tesco Head Office.0 -
I had the exact problem with tesco and tefal frying pan. HQ said that wouldn't get involved it was between me & the store manager0
