eek!
sorry Stressedoutmum - I didn't mean to say anything offensive! I'm as much a bargain hunter in the supermarket as you - same situation, young family low budget. What I meant was, there just aren't as many people here so less competition for them bargains! And 'urbanite' isn't negative!!0 -
Where I used to live (Northampton), the reduced section at Tesco Mereway was a nightmare. I often felt sorry for the person having to do the reductions, as they were always swamped by crowds of people pushing and shoving others out of the way. Where I live now (North Suffolk), it's a much nicer atmosphere. People wait and don't hassle the person doing reductions, and are polite to those around them.In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

All in a days work!
I find this post offensive .There are many that visit this site that buy reduced food through necessity not choice. Is it any different to you or anyone buyin dvd's etc using vouchers.
I am not surprised that you need security with you if that is your attitude. I am more surprised that you have the job.
I have rep[orted this post but no action was taken.Guest.0 -
Hey ME2, I quite obviously cannot speak on Wirm's behalf, however I can vouch for the fact that members of the public are very often rude & even aggressive to the person who happens to be putting the reduced stickers on items. I have witnessed it myself and have sometimes felt intimidated enough to decide not to bother with the reduced goods as I really didn't want to be pushed around. Not everybody is rude or aggressive of course, but some people are. I think Wirm has a good attitude to his work considering he works in a supermarket and has to have a security guard to ensure his safety...it is madness but it is also the reality of his job and I am sure as a reasonable person you would understand that he gets cynical about some customers attitudes.0

@ ME2 - I'm sorry if you find my post offensive. Each evening that I work I get shouted at and pushed about - All over reduced items - I have had people screaming in my face calling me names which I won't repeat on here. I was never ignorant or rude to any customer that came into the store, I reduced the items to the price I was allowed. Yet the level of abuse I received from customers has now resulted in a security guard having to stand with me as I reduce most of the products.
I think that you are being really rude saying that its no wonder I need security with me. I don't think you would like to experience what I do each day I work! I don't know what I've done on you that you have to be so nasty and attack me for a comment which I made about customers in the store where I work.
Yes there are some nice customers who constantly come into the store to buy reduced items and to be honest I am glad to see a friendly face. But for every nice regular customer there are at least half a dozen more nasty customers.0 -

I think you need to insist that a manager goes with you when the reductions are put out. Can you vary the times when you put them out or take them in the back to sort them out. Does your store have security men who could come with you when you put the reducted stuff out?

I can verify this, when I worked for Iceland I used to reduce stuff first thing in the morning. I'd take about a fifth off of the price if it was tomorrows date and half if it was todays. Bloody annoying to have to keep going back to the things you did yesterday but luckily we were allowed to buy the reduced stuff ourselves so anything that I could use went into the back cooler.:A:A:A:A:A:A0
