I did read somewhere not to lay them direct onto the floorboards.
the links supplied tell you the correct way of tiling a floor.
the problem with the direct to floor tile adhesive is the spec of flooring they say on the tub. No house is build to this spec as far as i know, so its never guaranteed not to fail:rolleyes:go on, adopt a greyhound

Prudent pete.............thanks for that link. They look really good on the site.
At the minute we''ve got plywood with a stencilled tile design I did (for cheapness ) behind and at the side of our electric oven and it's survived 7 years but now looking the worse for wear.
Can't remember what the wall is like behind it...........if it's not super smooth will these stick on's work or are we better to scrub down what we've got and stick direct on to that ? And would they be ok next to a cooker ? The only stick ons I've ever seen before have been the filmy ones.
We've worked it out and for what we'd need it'd be £50...........just what MIL gave us for christmas !:jMary

So, logically, using BAL Fast Flex doesn't comply with BS 5385's requirements? That would make for an interesting discussion over the specification. IIRC 15-18mm ply is suggested for some stone and tile types in the UHM articles.BS 5385 minimum british overlay of ply 15 - 18 mm.
BAL Fast flex using a solid bed tipped trowel. 2 part flex or epoxy resin grout. 10 year guarantee

I'm love to see the results a DIYer would have using that stuff. 20 mins open time, 45 mins pot life grey, 40 mins white  Prime with neat BAL Prime ADP.BS 5385 minimum british overlay of ply 15 - 18 mm.

I also agree with Handyman. I know this has been discussed somewhere before and IIRC the common standard floor constructions aren't cross braced enough to comply with the requirements for the rigidity of the floor for the guarantee to be valid.
 Right, found the techie bit:
Boards must be screwed or screw nailed to the supporting joists and noggins at maximum 300mm centres
I am guessing that the OP is a DIYer who wants to have a go at tiling their floor. They won't be using BAL Fast Flex. Period. I actually suspect it would be cheaper to board the floor and use a different adhesive than use Fast Flex.
Edited to add Fast Flex will cost about £60 trade and that's without the Primer required.A house isn't a home without a cat.

does it have to be ceramic tiles? you can get tile effect laminate flooring that is easier, faster and cheaper to lay, as long as it's hdf you should have no problems with water penetration. (and it's warmer to stand on ) 0 ) 0

ply 12mm 4 inch centres with full polymer modified flexi adhesive, assuming existing floor is sound, amen0

I was looking at the new range in bnq (aqualoc trade name) and its superb looking. In fact, all their laminates look great. Very surprised at how good the tile lamitate looks now.......would recommend it.
I'm still thinking 10 years back when lamitate became 'trendy', its much much better looking now
PS, its the warehouses that have the full range, smaller stores are missing half the rangego on, adopt a greyhound

            vista tiling,
I cant believe your recommending the use of 3mm ply when tiling. I have ripped up 2 tiled floor that have failed due to this. Nothing to do with materials used (thats just a stupid excuse to not use the correct combination of materials).
When it boils down to it, you are not tiling to BS standards. A key point in your post is the adhesive says 'rigidly fixed'...........look into this more, and see what the dimensions are that they require.go on, adopt a greyhound

            http://www.bal-adhesives.co.uk/bal/pdfs/specifier_literature/Bal_Fixer_Guide_Jan_2006.pdf
is BAL adhesive good enough for you?
If so, if you go to page 15/16 you will see that the spec for t&g flooring is supporting joists at 300mm centers. I dont know any house made to this spec. And you need to screw every board into every joist
In which case it states to overlay with 15mm ply screwed at 300mm centersgo on, adopt a greyhound
