Online/app banking affected by Google cloud outage
Lloyds/Halifax, Revolut and HSBC reported to be among a range of businesses affected by a Google Cloud outage this morning.
In a message shared on its Cloud Status page, Google says: "We are experiencing an issue with multiple services in europe-west2", and says that the issues began around 07:00 BST (23:08 PDT).
"Our engineering team continues to investigate the issue."

Lloyds/BoS app seems ok for me apart from the spending insights that isn't working so I guess that functionality is GCP dependent.
12pm update is the same "Our engineering team continues to investigate the issue."

Our 4,500 employee FTSE 250 company has been completely offline all morning as their primary security / firewall provider uses Google DNS services. Just came back on about 20 minutes ago.

Can't do anything with Barclaycard, can log in but nothing functions.
Edit.. Looks like it is nothing to do with the cloud outage but the app update that pushed through this morning. Works fine on my tablet using the old version

As an ardent digital-only fan, with plenty of current accounts and credit cards, I have now even started to have some cash in my wallet again, and I have a fair wad at home in the safe, too. Having a cheque book also doesn’t sound so ridiculous now.

The only impact I saw was my local gym's booking system was down. I popped in to book manually, and the staff confirmed it was attributed to the Google issue.

A Cheque book is still fairly useless for most payments as the Cheque Guarantee system has been withdrawn - so it's just a paper IOU.
Also, many debit/credit cards can operate offline using chip and pin if needed.

Agree with StewedApple and friolento. Yesterday was a good reminder that outages don't need a storm or a cyber-attack, just one supplier having a bad morning. A card from a second bank on a different system, plus a small amount of cash at home in small notes, covers most of it. Card machines in shops go down in power cuts too, so the cash helps either way.
