First of all an update on switching to the Sky Superfast Broadband part-fibre package. MSE says Ends 11.59pm Thu 22 Oct, but the date is wrong, as it is not available anymore. In fact when you supply address etc. MSE takes you directly to fast fibre packages. Through Topcashback I got to the very end of the application but then it stopped. Sky said they will only check if I can have fast fibre once I switch. This doesn't make sense as both in Openreach and Cityfibre my address looks like I can't.
I'll see what FTTCs are available at the good price I need.I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "Although with the possible exception of Sky given their price will go up in April allowing you to leave for a FTTP service from someone else, ETC free". Thanks.

As this thread was regarding if mobile broadband would be suitable in your situation and you now feel it isn’t , the thread has lost its focus, you also had a thread about landline type broadband that( in my opinion) would be the better one to continue , as anyone starting to read this from scratch has a lot of irrelevant BS to wade through .

However , you can check yourself if FTTC or FTTP from Openreach are available to your address , FTTC clearly is if you already have it from Talk Talk , it’s not clear if FTTP is , but use this link to double check (put your exact address in ) .

    https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome

Many ISP that use Openreach will offer Openreach FTTP if both FTTP from Openreach and FTTC are both available, you concentrating on Sky /Now has further ‘complication’ as they use City Fibre as well as Openreach , and if both CF and OR are available, then they prefer to use CF .

If by chance you live in a flat or apartment, then often FTTP can be available to the normal houses but not flats , especially purpose built apartments rather than converted houses as it’s a different method of provision.

Sky out their prices up yearly , but unlike most others they don’t say something like , £30 , going upto £33 in March 2027 and £36 March 2028 , they advise customers in February that prices will go up in March telling its customers the increase the month before it happens , but it always happens, they put their prices up around 10% but do offer the chance to leave penalty free once they say what the increase is , but you have to move to a new provider pretty much immediately if you don’t want the increase applied to the account.

Yes, my thread started with asking about mobile broadband and from the replies I decided it wasn't for me. Should I have opened another thread? From the original one many people started suggesting other options, FTTC and FTTP. It took me a while to understand what they are. And in the course of the various posts, I was unlucky and whatever I decided to do, I got obstacles, inconsistencies in the offers etc.

Thank you for your reply, but I think I've done everything you advise me to do, and unfortunately, although I've understood that mobile broadband is not what I want, and that FTTP is not available, I still need to find a cheap provider.

Cheap is a relative term , I tend to think if something is noticeably cheaper, then there will be a reason for that , hidden fees , useless customer service, onerous exit fees or conditions etc , but that’s my point of view.

Although I’m not a fan of them , the various comparison sites are the obvious place to start as they tend to rate by price , cheapest showing first , however personally I’d not use how cheap a company is as the only criteria when picking a supplier , but as a guide on Openreach FTTC £20-£25 is possible but personally I’d avoid, £26-£33 the average , generally decent companies that will broadly similar in what they offer , £34+ , only for those wanting a niche supplier offering something like exceptional customer service .

Try one or more of the well know comparison sites , simply put your address in, or use this Money Saving Expert site .

OP has already stated that the reason they want to move from TalkTalk is because of a price rise from £24 to £30/mth.

So you can see which providers they would need to be considering to get a price of less than that.

    @Peter999_2

I have got Three Home Broadband. It is £15 a month for a 24 month contract…

When you are ready to renew or end your contract, try Scancom for a Three SIM.

I found a discount code on Hotukdeals which has given me 500GB of data per month until April 2028 at £2.00 per month. Pay total upfront, no price increases for the duration.

Because Sky don't announce how much their broadband (or Sky Q TV) is going up in the initial contract, they have to give you the option of leaving ETC free. So if you sign up with them now on FTTC and FTTP has become live from other suppliers before April, you can switch or at least use it to get an upgrade to FTTP from Sky.

Keep your fingers crossed for me! I switched to Now Broadband/Sky. As I said earlier their Superfast FTTC is not available anymore, so I chose a full fibre. They are the only provider who doesn't specify the price increase so I can switch again before 31 March. The bad news is that the appointment is in a month time!

After days spent on this decision, I somehow doubt of making the right choice…

Thanks everybody. I will open another thread if I get into trouble.

    Which one? Now or Sky?

I've been with both at various times and had no issues.

Things that are different: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

It's known as Now BB powered by Sky (or something like that) so I'd guess Now BB.
