At no point have I suggested that the device will be officially supported.

You need to understand the statement. Nowhere does it state that they might block updates to unsupported devices.

What it means is if the device is not officially supported(in other words, untested), they cannot guarantee that everything is going to work as it should. That cannot state categorically that every update will work with every configuration, if they don't test prior to Intel Gen 8 processors. So they don't guarantee anything, since they don't want to be held responsible. But as long as the device is functioning, updates will be delivered until EOL.

The suggestion was that Microsoft might block them prior to October '28. That will not happen. Plain and simple. No precedence and no incentive to do so.

Oh dear, all I posted was about my joy at being able to move the taskbar without external machinations.

It's invigorating when a small snippet of information generates such a variety of responses, thing like this keep an old man going for a few more years. 👨‍🦳

    😀

Sadly I'm getting strong 'kid in bedroom of parents house being keyboard warrior' energy here from certain types, even if I've been accurate with my assertions, along with many others.

It really is a case of use supported hardware for Win11 or run the risk that updates may stop one day. There's no guarantee of updates until late 2028. Simple as that, and on that note I am done.

Since you are done, I can end the discussion with the advice that all updates will be delivered, supported or unsupported, until at least the 10th of October 2028. Whether that continues until October '29 will depend on the next release. i.e. if there is a 27H2.

As an aside, I have both supported and unsupported devices and I chose to bypass on all, since I did not want to have to use a Microsoft account to sign in.

Best that our members get expert advice, based on reality of the inner workings of the OS, as opposed to hearsay.

We live and learn 😊 At least some of us anyway. No matter how old you are, you can still learn new things.

So now we've learned about the Taskbar and you have learned that you can install Windows 11 to your older devices if the mood takes you.😊

    Indeed.

I withdraw my suggestion that you are weird.

Clearly the need of others to react to the news that someone has updated a computer with quite so much, er, enthusiasm is much stranger.

My post was just to inform those with older devices, that 26H2 remains installable, with updates until Oct '28. For some reason that triggers people to argue against it. Why? I have no idea. It's almost as if they want to discourage people from keeping their old devices in use.

Obviously they all work for HP, Dell and other manufacturers of shiny new boxes……
